    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was a backend engineer intern, using Java and Kotlin to develop server-side implementation for Farm Heroes Saga's backend. Every day I had a daily stand up and daily tech stand up, as well as Sync meetings and company wide calls. When not in meetings, I worked on projects that I had picked up from other developers which involved writing APIs, in Java/Kotlin adding tests, and creating plugins for Gradle to run on the code

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes. I have developed my skills of software developement: I have improved my knowledge of Java, by writing code to an industry standard and getting constructive feedback on my work as well s all of my branches being revied before merging I also have learnt to program in both Kotlin and Groovy, which I have used to develop new tools and live game features. I have also developed my soft skills, by being able to effectively ask for assistance, and by doing muliple presentations which has improved my public speaking

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was treated almost exactly like a full time developer. Each day I attended all of the relevant meetings for my team, and was asked for my opinion and felt I could contribute. I also was given a good workload, and this work which I produced was consistently reviewed thoroughly, so that I could make improvements on it and submit industry standard code. I also felt my team treated me as an adult and respected my approaches and opinions

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received constant support and genuine guidance form my manager, assigned buddy, and entire team and office. Everyone was very open and willing to share their experiences and advice, both technical and life advice. I also felt a strong sense of community throughout the team, and we were supported in meeting people as there were lots of events organised to help me settle in with other interns and full time employees and make us feel at home.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to King
  • Be honest open and yourself in the interviews, they take character into account and want to make sure you are a fit for the role. If you have a technical interview they are very helpful so talk through whatever you are thinking and hey will let you know if you are on the right path. Once you are put in contact with a recruiter they are really helpful to answer any questions or worries you might have.
