    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • So day-to-day I have a stand up every morning in my team. Here we state what we did yesterday and what we are going to do today. I then work on data analyst work (SQL) more specifically data visualization. I also am responsible to produce reports for the team and the wider business. Work on coding projects constantly progressing and upgrading current versions. Also work closely with my team with various types of different work.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have most definitely developed my SQL skills and my coding skills. It was good to understand how these skills are used within a huge business. I have also learnt a lot of general skills like communication and organization which I think is really key and will help me next year at university.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • No not really, I would've perhaps enjoyed a bit more responsibility to feel more important but my team gave me a very free lance intern experience where I was free to explore what I wanted to and free to work on any projects I came up with. I did have a few reporting tasks that I was responsible for and also a project which the last intern released and I further developed.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was
  • 3/5

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • In terms of general and soft skill guidance that was very good. But in terms of the more specific and technical skills I do think I received enough. At the same time there isn't many people in BMW who are from a computer science background. I did have one person who taught me so much but would've been nice to learn of other technical people too

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Really friendly, the office felt really comfortable and people are very nice in general here. No one pressurizes you or gives you crazy deadlines, and the employees are supportive.

  • How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed it as it was a very unique experience I don't think I would've got elsewhere. I was able to not only learn more technical skills but I learnt about the finance world and business in general and I think that is very valuable in itself. I would say however that onboarding could be improved and also if I was given more stuff to do that would of been good.

  • 7. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group
  • Try and go into it with an open mind, and take everyday as a learning opportunity. Don't close yourself to only learn things in your role/team, venture out and learn what others do in other teams and you may find people who can help you in future work. Also try and get a good start as that helps and shaves of months of confusion, so document and ask questions at the start.
