    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • This role consists of a lot of admin to support the wider commercial team, with development opportunities to start managing your own account. You will support with the set up of new products as well as data analysis to find opportunities to explore when finding out ways to activate the products. You will help forecast sales and develop strategic plans in an attempt achieve sales targets as well.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed my leadership skills by helping to manage an account, this has allowed me to become more confident in making decisions whilst simultaneously aiding my communication skills. My excel skills have improved dramatically as 90% of tasks involve the use of excel. Additionally, my team working skills have got better as I often need to work collaboratively with out brands or stakeholders to complete a task.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement. My manager entrusted me to manage one of her accounts. This was a long process to achieve as there was much to learn, but once I had learnt everything and demonstrated I was capable of doing it all, I was given responsibility for managing the account.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was given as much support / guidance as I wanted. My manager and wider team were always willing to help me with any questions I had. At the start everything was new to me and I was constantly asking questions but the team always supported me and I was often told 'no question is a silly question.' The team were always willing to guide me through tasks if I had a question over how to do them.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was very friendly and the intern community is very sociable. There are often socials where you can meet new people and find out about other roles in the division. The hybrid working environment was very positive and when coming into the office everyone was always positive and happy to see each other and have a chat.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • My placement has been very enjoyable and I have learnt a lot by doing this. The opportunities I have been given to develop my commercial skills has allowed me to become much more confident and has set me to pursue a career in commercial going forward. I have learnt from experienced account managers and been given the trust to manage external relationship. Combining these responsibilities with the sociable culture within the company has made this placement a very enjoyable experience.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to L'Oreal
  • Make sure to through yourself in to the company culture and build relationships with your team. It is a demanding year but you get out what you put in. If you work hard you will continue to be given increasing responsibilities with there being no real ceiling over as you continue to be pushed.
