  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • • Updating and sending out cost centre reports • Review of Motorsports cost centres and subsequent adjustment • Support on adjustments and review of AM and Corp Comms • Update and preparation of Total P&L and Balance Sheet • Preparation of SAP MARS HFM rec • Preparation of FSCP C11 • Monitoring of rec status in Cadency – email communication must be sent out • Monitoring month end sign off progress and collation of all signed documentation to be used for SOx evidence

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes, I have acquired new skills and developed existing ones. Over the past year, I learned the main accounting principles, developed my management and communication skills while managing cost center meetings. Also, I further expanded my Excel skills, which allowed me to automate various data analysis tasks. Additionally, I worked in a team with other undergrads on a project that helped me refine my communication and delegation skills. Other skills: time-management, leadership.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, during my placement, I was given a substantial amount of responsibility. My managers trusted me and delegated to me important tasks and projects. I was actively involved in all monthly, quarterly and ad hoc tasks within my department, such as managing month end meetings, posting accruals/ journals, conducting month end reviews with the team, working on the main financial reports (balance sheet and total P&L). I had the opportunity to work independently, make impactful recommendations, and take ownership of my work. This level of responsibility allowed me to develop valuable skills and gain practical experience in a professional setting.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • During my placement/internship as an undergraduate at Honda, I received a considerable amount of support and guidance. The company provided a supportive environment for learning and growth. I had a designated manager who served as a point of contact for questions, feedback, and guidance throughout my internship. I received regular check-ins and meetings with my managers, where we discussed my progress, addressed any challenges, and set goals for professional development.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement/internship as it provided me with a fulfilling experience on multiple fronts. The emphasis on teamwork, the multitude of responsibilities entrusted to me, and the opportunity to develop my skills made it an incredibly rewarding experience. The placement/internship also provided ample opportunities for skill development. The range of tasks and projects I undertook allowed me to expand my existing skills and acquire new ones. This continuous learning process not only increased my confidence but also prepared me for future challenges in my field.
