    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • In this role, your daily tasks entail retail tracking for the brands on the key accounts of Loreal. You would be tracking new product performance and analysing the customer demographic index to get key insights into performance. Moreover, you would be responsible in the new launch set up, admin of each account and the key person to develop marketing strategies to improve performance.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • In this year, I have upskilled on my technical skills as it has given me the opportunity to work with Excel primarily. Moreover, it has improved my communication skills as we I used to have weekly calls with the buyers of the retailer accounts to go through planned strategies and work on execution. Lastly, it has also boosted my confidence as I got to work with professionals.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • This placement was a great experience as I was primarily working for Boots/Superdrug which are the key accounts of Loreal. Working for Boots was extremely challenging and high pressure as it requires a lot of admin work. Being an intern I was given a lot of responsibility in terms of handling the accounts product launches and handling the promotions.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I think during my placement, I was in a great team and was given immense support. Everyone at loreal are extremely friendly and willing to help which made the experience very comfortable and light hearted. During my placement, I had a change of 4 managers and each of them had a different work style and it was a great way to learn from them individually.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Loreal is extremely fast paced and high pressure however its people is what makes it extremely special. In the division I worked in I was surrounded by extremely talented and friendly people. The company can be demanding in terms of the productivity and can be stressful at times however there is support needed for everyone and is very friendly.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I think this placement had a lot of ups and downs however overall I am extremely glad that I opted for this placement. This year was a great addition to my university experience as it has given me a flavour to the real business world and has given me clarity onto my future steps.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to L'Oreal
  • I would advice everyone to come with an open mind and have the curiosity to understand the business as a whole. It is extremely important to know the 'why' of each tasks that you do as it helps in creating a framework in your mind. I would advice to be confident and show the company that you are willing to learn and give your 100% in your work.
