    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Client Group internship allows you to intern and get insight into one of the Client Group teams over 10 weeks. For my internship I was placed in Presentations team, which involved me in formatting and tailoring sales pitchbooks and standard packs and updating attribution and product data. Team works closely with Client Directors, Investment directors and Salespeople, to create and maintain presentations for both existing and new clients in the line with our brand and values.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • This experience in presentation team helped to develop substantial PowerPoint skills, as well as further improve my Excel skills. Attention to detail was also very important skill that I have improved on while working on updating vast amount of performance data. Fast-paced nature of the team and large volume of workload highlighted for me importance of clear communication within the team as well as the importance of managing your time effectively to be able to meet the deadlines for submission.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I have been given appropriate amount of responsibility as an intern in the team. After obtaining sufficient training from the teammates, I have integrated into the team's workflow and had a chance to handle requests independently. One of my responsibilities was to be a designated brandchecker for the team to save them up some time on more important tasks. Second responsibility involved me in acting as a support unit to the team, handling any additional requests to increase team's capacity.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Sufficient amount of support was offered during my internship experience. I received substantial amount of training from my teammates for my core deliverables, as well as daily support from my mentor when handling requests independently. Early careers also offered us an opportunity to attend different training courses, including Excel, time management skills and communication skills development sessions etc. Speaker events from colleagues from different parts of the business were also very useful for the development and for advancing understanding of the industry

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I very much liked the how collaborative and open the culture at the firm is. From the first day it was obvious that you can approach anyone in the business, and they will be glad to have a quick catch up with you and offer any support you require. I enjoyed how flat the structure is and to be able to have an exposure to senior level people and to work alongside them, learning from their experience.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I found internship experience enjoyable and rewarding. It was great to have the opportunity to learn from industry's experts, to develop and improve essential skills through trainings offered both by the team and early careers, to be able to contribute to the team, build your professional network through networking events organised by different diversity networks at the firm, gain deeper understanding of the asset management industry and learn more about different asset classes. This experience reinforced my aspiration to pursue a career in the AM field
