Day to day tasks included running processes, analysing data, collating data, administrative tasks, ad-hoc tasks needing completed by team. Project work included creating procedural documents and trialling processes. Group project collaborating with other interns throughout the 10 weeks. Networking - lots of meetings, 1-1 calls and overviews were a key part of the internship. Met with individuals from all levels of different business functions.
Working during a pandemic meant that all of my interactions and day to day tasks were virtual. I began each day with a team meeting to update everyone on the market moves during the night and on meetings which took place the previous day. I would then work on my project which was a research project which involved using Bloomberg and excel. I would meet with other interns, graduate and senior team members throughout the day. Once a week I wrote meeting summaries and had other smaller projects dotted across the 10 weeks.
As an intern in the Finance Business Performing division, I spent most of my time assisting in internal budgeting and planning. On a day-to-day basis this could involve analysing budget vs. actual numbers, checking unusual transactions with their invoices and communicating with other teams within the business.
Within the investment stream, I worked with the equities team. I researched companies within my region and undertook financial analysis - looking at their competitive advantages over competitors and analysing their financial statements. I joined in during management calls to encourage ESG best practices. I join in during meetings and often take the minutes or I do write ups from management meetings or investor education calls.
Introductory level role into asset management. Day-to-day work involves attending meetings with the team and external clients/ fund managers, completing data tasks (e.g. Excel, Morningstar), a lot of networking, conducting research for the team, attending intern development activities, working towards your final objective project.
My role involves sitting in an investment desk within the Equities division at Aberdeen Standard Investments. On a day-to-day basis I conduct research on companies the team are considering investing in. This involves sitting in on meetings with the companies, often involving high level management. I also engage with sell-side analysts and analyse financial models and data to understand how a company is valued, and how that may change in the future.
Really enjoyed my internship, I was challenged in my work but also felt very welcome by members of my team. The work I did was very useful for improving my knowledge of the asset class and the market I was working in. The Internship development programme was also useful to structure my internship
From the induction day at the very start it was clear I was going to enjoy this internship! The work was extremely varied and I was made to feel a valued and important member of the team. The support in place, be it through my own team or the early careers department, was second to none.
SLA gave me a fantastic introduction to the world of asset management, and I thoroughly enjoyed the 10 weeks I spent there. My colleagues were fantastic, and I was given the chance to develop my skills by working on real problems, as well as having autonomy over a project for the duration of my internship. I would highly recommend the experience.
Really enjoyed the internship. I was in the investments division. My specific team was extremely welcoming; everyone was happy to have a chat about themselves and their career; I was also invited to plenty of external meetings with team members I did not even directly work with on a daily basis. Overall, great internship.
