    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Support colleagues through a range of tasks whether business as usual or ad hoc projects. This may include updating presentations or the data within them. There is also great opportunities to meet a range of people from around the company which assists in building a greater understanding of the business and wider industry.

    Skills

  • Opportunities to learn lots of new skills, both hard and soft. Key skills which I have developed include MS Powerpoint, Excel, networking, and communication. I have also been able to develop a range of skills through the dedicated learning portal at abrdn. In addition, everyone from around the business is always keen to try and show you any new skills you are interested in learning.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given the opportunity to create new ways of displaying information which was then used in presentations. I was also allowed to liaise with people across the business who have in depth asset class specific knowledge, and this allowed me to take a key role in certain projects.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Lots of support and guidance. Everyone on the team and around the company were always keen to set aside time to provide any advice they have gathered during their career. There was also weekly updates from the early careers team which outlined a key focus for our development. If I ever had any issues with a piece of work I was always able to seek assistance.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at abrdn and have learnt so much about the industry and how companies like this operate. Therefore, I would certainly encourage people to apply to their placement opportunities and take advantage of all the support which they provide. There is very little they could have done to improve the experience.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to abrdn
  • Certainly put in an application since the opportunities on a placement are a fantastic chance to learn. Have a look at the company commitments and see if you have any past examples or if any of them resonate with you. Also, think about how you would use your time here to progress these areas. Having a general understanding of the industry and company will also help when choosing your desired area.
