  • I have learnt and developed a lot of management and organizational skills, such as how to keep good minutes of a meeting, how to break an objective down into a project and create a timeline, how to manage stakeholders and understand what they want delivered from a project.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given some responsibility in holding scoping meetings with stakeholders and ML engineers to understand what the deliverables of a project were and its preliminary timeline. However my primary intern project was not related to this and was more of a documentation task not related to an ongoing project.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received much support and guidance from many members of my team and was always encouraged to ask for help and extra tasks to do on top of my primary project. The people around me were all very kind and willing to give advice to me through out the whole process whenever I asked.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was great with Expedia having multiple company wide and intern specific events in my time as an intern. The office has some very good event spaces and a roof top terrace where they hosted quizzes, dinners and drinks throughout my time there.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed the placement very much due to the kindness of the team I worked with as well as the general culture of the company. It was less technical that I had first realized but was a great experience in working around data scientists and engineers on large projects in a more organizational and management focused position.

  • Be honest with your interest and enjoyment in and around the field you will be applying to as that helps a lot to prove you will be a good candidate. Also look up the Expedia company values and try to tailor interview responses to reflect those values.
