    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I worked on several different projects, all of which were involved with EAC (Expedia Affiliate Collect). Day-to-day, I mainly worked on Excel files and downloaded data from different systems. I also have several meetings a day with different people. An example of one of my projects was creating a weekly report monitoring payments. Another example was putting together a training deck about EAC Efficiency, including its uses, limitations and data analysis on average efficiencies in 2022 and 2019.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I was able to develop many skills, especially to do with data handling and manipulation. I was also able to navigate a lot of new tools such as Looker and Tableau. I had several opportunities to develop my presenting skills, alongside my communication skills.

  • Yes, I was given projects that actually added value to the business, including providing insights into partner paying behaviour. At the same time, help was always provided if I needed.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of guidance, not only from my buddy and manager, but also from everyone else in my wider team and in the London office in general. Everyone was so welcoming and willing to help at Expedia, it is definitely one of its great strengths. I had a weekly catch up with my buddy and onw with my manager, to ensure I had support, outside of this I was able to contact either of them for help at any time.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture at Expedia is amazing, there are always a lot of events organized in the office. Roughly once a week there was an event, either for the interns or for the whole company. The events really vary from free food, to drinks, music and pub quiz. There is definitely a large amounts of diversity initiatives, for example the celebration of Pride.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed the placement, my team was very friendly and always willing to help. Although the work can be challenging, the support at Expedia is amazing. The office is a lot more relaxed than expected, it is not hierarchal at all, instead, you are encouraged to talk to more senior people to understand more about the business and their role. I would definitely go back.

  • 7. Would you recommend Expedia Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Expedia Group
  • Do not be stressed on day one, the dress code is very relaxed, wear whatever you are comfortable with. Expedia is a really big company, therefore try to set up time with as many people as possible to introduce yourself and to know more about their role. Definitely one of the biggest tips is to ask as many question as you can, if you are struggling with your work or are just curios to know more, ask! People understand that they have more experience and are more than willing to share.
