Technical Program Manager Intern Review

My usual morning consists of doing the admin type jobs. This includes maintaining the Kanban board and team documentation, as well as working on initiatives. My team has a member in the US so my afternoons tend to be pretty full with meetings for my team, running there ceremonies. I also have my PgM meetings in the afternoons which can be reporting to higher ups how my team is doing or PgM staff meetings

I have learnt a lot about managing a team. This includes the Agile elements as well as the people management. Likewise, I now have a better understand of planning processes and how to keep organized throughout these. New Skills using Confluence, Jira and Trello. Became better at taking concise notes in fast paced meetings. Better at prioritization and planning.

They treated me like I was taking over the team all together by the end of the internship so that was a lot of responsibility. I was given Admin privilege's on Kanban boards and was encouraged to make changes to how the team runs to (hopefully) better suit them. Also given opportunities to take on other tasks in form of initiatives. I was looking at how we can better track testing.

The entire internship the usual PgM for the team was there to support me and teach me the ropes. She was my navigator and I also had my manager. With each I had weekly 1-2-1's. The navigator ones, she would show me how to do the smaller tasks people don't see and double check I had no questions. The manager one I would tell all my milestones and she would give me advice.

Expedia Group has the nicest people. Everyone is willing to help and will do so without making you feel like a burden. The London Office gives a lovely atmosphere, through quite quiet over the summer internship with so many people on holiday or working from home (hybrid work) but the company encouraged people to move seats to give the office a more full feeling which was nice

I really enjoyed mine. I'm a comp sci student who decided randomly to try program management. I was shocked how much I enjoyed running the team and I'm going to miss the people I worked closely with a lot. I also didn't expect the facilities to be that good. The desks have everything you need down to phone chargers and there are many kitchens with free drinks and snacks to keep you going.

A lot of the time they want to make sure you suit the culture of Expedia more then just the specific role. I recommend looking into the EG values and try to consider an example how how you have demonstrated them at some point.
