    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Investigating, monitoring, and tracking IT security incidents, vulnerabilities, and risks

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I've developed more this year than I had thought possible. VWFS host plenty of lifeskills courses for their undergrads and apprentices to help with non job specific skills such as understanding tax codes, financial literacy, and delivering powerful presentations. As for role-specific skills, I've been given the freedom to develop all sorts of technical skills and become professionally competent in using a variety of platforms and applications

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Absolutely - I have handled numerous complex security incidents in my time at VWFS. Some of which even involved dealerships and fleet customers, which required a more diplomatic approach. Even though I was able to take the reins on a number of projects and incidents, I always had support readily available to me whenever I needed it and I know I wouldn't have been given these responsibilities if I wasn't ready and confident.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Plenty. I had very frequent 1:1 meetings with my manager and was in almost daily contact with him due to the nature of the role. I even had regular catch-ups with my head of department! Everybody I encountered was very supportive, and even though I was given the freedom to take the lead in projects, I knew I always had plenty of support available if needed
