    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My Role was a Commercial Intern. It was my job to support the Commercial Function of the largest National Account and several E-Commerce Accounts. I fulfilled this role by processing monthly orders from each retailer, tracking all sell out data and explaining peaks and troughs depending on discounts that were on offer etc. It was my job also to answer any queries the retailers had and to updated them on any New Products that were coming on the market.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learned several new skills over my year in L'Oréal. I have developed my time management skills to a fine point as this was the key to success in such a fast-paced company. I developed my Data Analysis skills and I had to become very comfortable using Microsoft Excel in order to track data efficiently and to process orders correctly. I built on some of my existing skills such as customers service by engaging with so many people which I had done in my previous role.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given an incredible amount of responsibility from day one. I was involved in all meetings that my line manager was a part of and was encouraged to contribute my ideas and thoughts very early on. I was given responsibility with developing trade marketing plans for the various E-Commerce accounts from the initial idea to executing the final plan and following through with tracking the results. I was also fortunate to be involved with various external projects such as designing Point Of Sale Posters and taking part in organising numerous Influencer Events.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a great deal of support during my placement. My Line Manager was always on hand to answer any questions I had and was never more than a phone call away. Members of the wider team welcomed me with open arms and were constantly offering me advice and learnings that they had picked up along their career journey. The HR team was incredibly engaging and always made sure that the Interns were settling in okay and enjoying their experience.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The Company Culture was heavily focused on Teamwork which was apparent from the first day. The Collaboration that was on display was inspiring and made it very easy to get involved in all projects. Many events were held throughout the year focusing on Charities such as Citizen's Day or Mental Health when we had a series of incredibly insightful talks from Mental Health Experts. The atmosphere was very friendly and I was always made to feel part of the Wider Team which I really appreciated.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my Internship. It gave me an incredible opportunity to expose myself to a large Global Company, immerse myself in an incredibly inspiring culture, and take part and contribute to meaningful and impactful projects. It allowed me to grow as a person and develop new skills that I will keep with me throughout my future career. It was very challenging but I always felt supported. I would definitely recommend this Internship to anybody.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to L'Oreal
  • I would advise prospective employees to research the Company as much as possible before the interview process. I would say to be yourself in the Interview and to remember that the Interviewer is interested in learning about you and what you know. I would try to keep an open mind for the duration, particularly in the first three months, and immerse yourself in as much as you can in order to get the most out of your time there.
