    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working within the Corporate Division, I played an active role in managing the CRM activities of all UK brands, predominantly the 11 direct-to-consumer brands. I was responsible for monitoring and reporting on KPI performance across multiple digital touchpoints, including Email Channel and Sampling. I also took ownership of several agency relationships, liaising with external teams on a daily basis to drive L'Oréal's 2022 strategy and ensure brands adhered to best practice.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • L'Oréal has encouraged and supported me in developing both new and existing skills. Not only is there a breadth of learning opportunities hosted on L'Oréal's internal platform, there are live up-skilling sessions, webinars and courses accessible on a weekly basis. Personally, I have enhanced my analytical and data-orientated competencies, particularly becoming confident using Google Analytics and Microsoft Excel.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Absolutely - as soon as I joined, I was introduced to my responsibilities and from then trusted to go about my tasks independently. Although this was somewhat overwhelming at first, it has been an invaluable experience. Learning to think on your feet and overcome challenges is unbelievably rewarding, particularly when the business environment is totally new. I was responsible for several important projects, which made me feel a true member of the team.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My line manager was absolutely amazing. Not only were they supportive and approachable for work-related tasks, but also on a personal level too. We had weekly 1:1 sessions and I felt able to contact them whenever was necessary. Not only this, L'Oréal has a highly collaborative working style; from my experience, whoever you reach out to is always happy to give a helping hand.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • L'Oréal operates a great culture, super collaborative and hard-working, but also always ready to have fun! There is always some sort of Launch drinks, events and activities going on, where everyone is welcome. In addition, there is a range of committees you can sign up to and meet new people across the business.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I absolutely loved my Placement at L'Oréal, and am so thankful for the experience I gained. It is hard to foresee what the role will entail prior to joining, but it definitely exceeded my expectations - and they were high already! L'Oréal is a hub for continuous learning, development and a way to challenge yourself. Having a pre-determined passion for the beauty industry, this was highly complimented by the exciting breadth of projects I undertook.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to L'Oreal
  • L'Oréal is founded on innovation, excitement, diversity and inclusion. When you're applying, think outside the box. Ask those questions that others may not. You want to show you can come up with creative ideas, but not only this, how can those ideas be achieved in practice. Show your passion for the industry, and your interest in the business. But most importantly - be yourself!
