    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • To monitor the regular performance of mainly WarnerMedia's kids channels in EMEA and update or collect reports to share with the wider company to keep all informed. I am also required to deal with ad-hoc requests from other teams or follow-up questions from any data presented. More long-term tasks are deep dive investigations that I am asked to construct or help my team out with, when new trends (good or bad) may show up in the data to provide reasons for why they have occurred.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • A range of transferable skills have been learnt throughout the duration of this placement, ones non specific to my role has been organisation and time-management, with the managing of my diary between meetings and tasks and ensuring I attend all meetings and complete all tasks in the given time frame. Also teamwork, my team have been extremely helpful and willing, ensuring my place as a valued member of the team while also accepting there is much for me to learn, and taking the time to teach and show me things and also give me opportunities to grow and develop my corporate skills, especially within the meeting forum, where I have been encouraged to present and participate in vast meetings and discussions. Which has therefore developed my skills as a data analyst, through the regular training and use of a range of platforms and also my understanding of the media industry and the everyday functions of media platforms and specifically linear TV.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Much more than expected - there is plenty of times when I am observing and shadowing members of my team, however, I am always encouraged to get involved and have a voice. Furthermore, I have been given numerous reports to extract data for and update and then share with teams and sometimes through presentations, where I am encouraged to take lead, form appropriate graphics and present our findings. I was also able to head up my own research into a specific group of our target audience, where I collected the data through one of our well used platforms and drew insights and practical steps to use the statistics I had found to further engage with this audience group and was then able to present this deck to the marketing team and share with some of the wider department.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • At WarnerMedia and specifically within my team I have constantly been offered help throughout the internship despite how much I have learnt and are expected to know and understand. I am regularly checked in with by my immediate team and my line manager, who has booked in meetings with me to check how I am getting on and if I have any questions. I also have a weekly recurring catch-up meeting with my immediate team mates, that helped establish our relationships, where we spend a small amount of times just discussing our weekend plans, industry news, before liaising about our current tasks. Allowing us to seek advice, collaborate and keep updated with each others current workload. - a great space to learn stuff and brainstorm ideas. There is also an early careers team, where you are always made to feel you can ask questions and discuss personal or professional problems without ever feeling like a bother, with monthly connect sessions that link all the interns and apprentices and special guests conduct talks that help those beginning their careers. The company also collaborates with a wellness group, that offer mental health guidance and support sessions for each employer, that help you get the most out of your job while also knowing a healthy balance between work and your personal life.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • My placement has been an absolute pleasure and exceeded my expectations, in terms of the opportunities I have been granted and how much of a valued member of the team I was treated like. Getting the chance to be in rooms with senior members, present to those members and collaborate ideas with them on how to make the company better. Over the months, my analyst skills have evolved and matured along with my soft skills, that prepare me for the working world post university, due to the help of my team, that have ensured I get the most out of the year. If granted the opportunity to return, I would be honored to work at WarnerMedia again and to be apart of such a great team of people!
