  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was in the identity management team at Expedia, and was looking at identity transactions between large employee databases every day, identifying faults and problems with identity transactions and analyzing them, automating extraction of this data from secure servers to an S3 bucket.

  • I have learnt skills working with Amazon web services, large databases using Microsoft database management systems, and creating, developing and managing REST API's in Java and managing API gateways using kubernetes

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was responsible for 2 large projects that the team has been requiring for some time, and was given considerable leeway in the ideas and implementation and design of how to complete each project, working with other interns and consulting my supervisors for help when needed.

  • I met with my manager and buddy weekly, and was given lots of advice on specific technologies that may help me fulfill my role as well as soft skills and career advice from my manager.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • We met almost every day with the entire team via zoom calls and the general atmosphere is friendly and guiding, everyone understands the issues with timetables in different time zones and is ready and willing to provide extensive help when needed.

  • I really enjoyed my placement as I learnt a lot of new skills with industry standard technologies, and I experienced working in a team around the globe and communicating and collaborating with other colleagues on meaningful tasks.
