    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role was a Undergraduate Quantity Surveyor based out of the North region. My main tasks have been supporting the commercial team, preparing package tenders (measurement and describing scope of works), attending internal and external meetings and other general procurement/commercial tasks.

  • I have definitely learnt new skills and developed my existing knowledge gained from my university course. Having first hand experience within my role has expanded the skill set I have and has shown me a wide range of areas I hadn't experienced before.

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement. One example was being solely responsible for preparing contact documents which would later be legally binding.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • All of my project team were very helpful during my placement, from the Graduates to the Senior members. All made sure I understood thoroughly what I was doing but also what they were doing. Frequently, they would stop their work to answer my questions or give me a quick lessons on a area I was not 100% on.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The atmosphere of the company was a nice on to work within. There is a real teamwork ethic and everyone looks out for one-another. There is a large focus on social responsibility and there is always local news about people within the business.

  • I really enjoyed my placement and I would 100% recommend one, especially at Sisk. I feel like I have been prepared for my future career and have learn more first hand compared to university.

  • Make sure you know some information about the company and show a real interest. At the assessment center don't hold back and be afraid - once you get stuck in you will forget about the nerves.
