    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Research competitive intelligence and best practices across retail, beauty and the high-street. Execute go-to-market initiatives, particularly with creating content and comms campaigns. Internal and external stakeholder management such as briefing agencies, presenting internal meetings, senior management support.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Communication, project management and creativity are the three main skills that I have developed this year. I struggled with design at the beginning and found that my creativity lay in strategy and solution rather than design execution. Project management is my most improved and developed skill, having spent the year executing multi-projects. Communication is a strength that my team pushed by presenting at multiple internal and external events and meetings.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of autonomy and freedom to execute the projects in a way I saw appropriate. I would be involved in strategy meetings, allowing me (as the teams executer) to have an input in how projects should be brought to life. I was encouraged to suggest projects to lead and given the opportunity to launch with support from the team.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • There was always support and guidance on hand, you just needed to ask for it. There was a good balance between using initiative to solve a problem and being provided with the solution. I always knew who to turn to if I ever needed support, and had a nurturing and open relationship with my manager.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture at L’Oréal is one of my favourite elements of working there. They have strong values and clear expectations of employees and I have often felt throughout the year I am considered a human before employee. I love the intra/entrepreneur mentally leadership encourages which forms one of the five L’Oréal competencies. There were so many opportunities to get involved with projects beyond your role which helped me push myself.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I absolutely loved my internship. I felt like I had endless opportunities and could push myself out of my comfort zone as well as play to my strengths. It totally exceeded my expectations for a company, I never once was treated as 'just an intern', I felt like a really integral part of my team and would do my internship all over again in a heart beat.
