    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role varies a lot day to day. One day I could be working on pulling numbers and analysing monthly results, and the next I could be working on our website or B2B E-commerce platform or a big new project. I have to interact a lot with cross-functional teams, including Supply to ensure our stock meets our promotional needs. Additionally, I help our Sales Consultants out with anything from ad hoc reports to salon orders.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have gained and developed on so many skills whilst at L'Oréal. My Excel skills have improved so much, I can now utilise more complex formulas easily within my work to be a lot more efficient. I have also been able to attend training courses, including in presenting which have been so beneficial and build on my industry skills including copywriting, analysing promotional results, market research and using functions such as google analytics.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I have been given so much responsibility during my placement. I have led lots of my own projects, including within our biggest ever launch, which was extremely rewarding. I have had lots of autonomy over my work, and the tasks you are given are all business critical, whether it is a big task, small or ad hoc. Everything I have done has affected other stakeholders in some way, so there is never a meaningless task.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My Line Manager was really good at supporting me throughout my placement. Even though due to Covid it has been virtual a lot, I have never felt left in the dark and also had people to contact for questions and guidance, whether that be my direct manager or within the wider or cross-functional teams. I also was able to have a mentor too who supported me with finding out about the wider business and networking.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture at L'Oréal has really met my expectations. I really wanted to join the company as I loved their willingness to help both the environment and community, and there have been lots of opportunities and initiatives to do so, including Citizens day which I found really rewarding. Additionally, in my division specifically they have tried hard within this predominately virtual year to still build a sense of community, holding lots of virtual events.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement, it has given me so much insight into the industry I want to be in and developed my skills more than I could have imagined, being given so much responsibility from day one. I have learnt so much from more experienced professionals and gained feedback that will help me incredibly within the future, and discovered a passion for the industry and certain parts of my role including copywriting.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to L'Oreal
  • If you want to apply to L'Oréal, make sure you know why! You need to demonstrate your passion for the industry and willingness to learn, as well as what attracted you specifically to the role and company. Make sure you thoroughly research into the company's social initiatives and goals, and show why you want to be a part of those. Having greater insight into the brands and industry is incredibly valuable!
