    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Each day is completely different depending on the time of the year. I complete a mixture of admin tasks as I am responsible for the teams inbox as well as more bespoke tasks including monthly reports. I work closely with the internal team and external suppliers to organise training sessions throughout the year and am responsible for getting people to sign up to our courses and ensuring they attend on the day.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes, I have massively developed my excel skills as you continuously work with pivot tables and large amounts of data. This has given me the opportunity to apply what I have learnt from online courses to real life situations. I have increased my confidence greatly through presenting to the wider HR team and communicating with a wide range of different people from all levels of business.

  • Yes throughout the year you are given multiple projects that you are responsible for. These include projects such as planning for Learning at Work Week and refreshing our Induction process As L&D is a small team, you are given lots of opportunities to take responsibility for different projects throughout the year as well as working alongside individual members of the team to share responsibility,

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received loads of support throughout the year. Although my placement has been working from home for the majority of my time I speak to my team every day via video call and also have the option of Skype to message everyone throughout the day. If there was anything I am unsure about or need help with I know that the team will always be there to help.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company has a very supportive culture and show that they care for all of their employees. They are aware of all global initiatives and have been working on both diversity and inclusion projects and sustainability projects. The general atmosphere is very caring and at Christmas the whole business was involved in picking charities for donations to go to.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement, I was nervous about starting a placement while working from home however I have learnt so many new skills that will be crucial moving forwards in the world of work. Both the L&D team and HR team really helped me to push myself outside of my comfort zone exposing me to a wide range of different people and activities. It has definitely given me a taste of HR.

  • 7. Would you recommend Volkswagen Financial Services to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Volkswagen Financial Services
  • Be yourself in the interviews, it's so easy to let your nerves cover up your personality but that's the main thing the team want to see on the day. Also look into the job description, nobody expects you to know everything on the page but it would be good to have somethings you can pull out and mention. Even the assessments days are an amazing learning opportunity that you can use going forward.
