    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting EY employees from across various departments and getting an insight into the work they do. Everyone had been very friendly and welcoming and really embraced us as part of their team! I got to undertake a wide variety of work as I worked for 2 weeks on 3 different projects and worked with people of various seniority.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • This internship was not just shadowing work. From the first week I was given work on a project and felt like a valued team member. Although I did not have many technical skills people were willing to take the time and teach me the necessary knowledge for the task I was about to undertake.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My Buddy James was brilliant, introducing us to everyone on the team and inviting us to numerous social events. My counsellor was also very approachable and gave me lots of tips and advice I will take on board when trying to progress my career. She also put me in contact with members of other teams so I could meet them for a coffee and discuss the work they do.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The work load was about right, I always had work to do but did not feel overloaded. It is important to take charge of your capacity and be honest with people if you feel you have too much or too little work. I never had to stay in the office past 7pm.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the ‘market overview’ section of a report to write which will be sent off (after being checked) to a client. If you are wanting to take on responsibility EY are willing to let you have that chance. I produced work for internal and external sources. I felt like my work was valued.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My macro knowledge was helpful when looking at the bigger picture of some issues, and concepts such as present value and discount rates were useful in the valuations department where my internship was. Mathematical skills were also helpful but not necessary. I would advice becoming competent with excel - this will be very useful at EY.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was very welcoming and friendly and embraced he interns as part of their team. Nobody felt they were too senior to talk to us and we had time with people of all seniority including partners. We even had breakfast at the top floor restaurant with the partner from our team!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I’m emerald the scheme was well organised, in particular the opening and closing events. It is down to the intern to make sure they have the right amount of work I’ve rather 6 weeks but your counsellor will always check in with you to see what projects you have been on.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The main investment was people’s time. I had a lot of meeting and training sessions with people explaining the department they are in and the work they do. No question was a stupid question and the most important thing is to be willing to learn and take on new information.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with EY and am hoping to be made a graduate offer for when I have completed my degree at university. I can really see myself fitting in with the companies culture and values and look forward to hopefully working with the team members I have met in these 6 weeks in the future.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • My internship took place in the summer which is the most sociable time at EY. We attended a summer BBQ, numerous socials and even a leaving party! Everyone often goes to get lunch as a team and people genuinely get on well and choose to spend time together outside of the office.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is a very expensive place to live and work but in general the salaries are higher than the national average to make up for this. Most graduates will rent and live in a.l shared flat to start with before maybe moving out of the city and living further away later in their career.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are many bars and restaurants around the office at More London Place which all come to life after 5 o’clock. As a team we would often go to the bar after work and a couple of tomes the intern in my exam went to dinner. The social scene is important to me.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I have heard about opportunities to join sports teams and social clubs but this was not possible to join during the short 6 weeks I was with the firm. I also think EY does offer discounted gym memberships but this is not something that is offered as we were just here for 6 weeks.
