    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the experience of the placement overall. I got on well with the people in the office and the other interns and liked the culture of the firm. This internship gave me the opportunity to do work on real clients and be on site which was a great experience.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All were very welcoming and kind. I felt like I was part of the team. I did sometimes feel like I wasn’t the most helpful as had to ask a lot of questions but they were mostly good at explaining and were friendly and inclusive.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Great support. They were good at helping to explain concepts and the work to me, especially since I do not have an accounting or finance background. I also had a really good councillor who I met with repeatedly during the internship and could ask and questions. This was nice to have someone else to go to as well as those on my client site. The resource manager in the office was also very helpful when we had more general questions.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very dependent on the day. Some days there was a lot of work however some days it was lacking. This was partly due to delays in receiving bits from clients that I needed. I did also have a few unassigned days when I had no work. This allowed me to do training but was less interesting.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Some responsibility. I was in charge of various tasks and completing them in the time. Some tasks however were just parts of other people’s work so I was less responsible for these. I was given the opportunity to discuss with clients which was good.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The excel skills will be useful in my degree. I think the softer skills will be very valuable both in the project work I will be doing next year and in the workplace beyond. I think the knowledge of how to write professional emails will also be really useful

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really good atmosphere. There was a table tennis table which encouraged socialising at lunch and everyone was really friendly. However, much time was spent on site, not in the office which was more varied and sometimes less good depending on the team and the site.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The parts organised for all interns were very well set up and most of the in office stuff was as well. However, on our first few days in the office, there was a lack of clarify of who we should answer to and what we should be doing. There were also some last minute allocation changes which made planning difficult.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Had opportunities to do online training when we didn’t have any work. Also, a lot of attention from other members of the company in terms of explaining how to do tasks and taking an interest in me personally. I think more initial training on how to use the internal it systems and a basic overview of the processes would have been useful

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Seems like there is the opportunity to get a job if you have performed well which is good and seems like a good firm to work at. However, personally I am not yet sure if this would be the right job for me

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Only 3 interns in my office so less ability to socialise there, however got on well with them. Didn’t seem to be masses of socials organised however some socials with interns at other offices which were enjoyable.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Lived at parents home so cheap. Would need a car if had a full time job. Socialising was fairly expensive in area

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Decent number of pubs but lack of clubbing

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not really in the office I was in.
