Business Analyst intern Review

I feel that my internship is carefully planned to ensure the best experience for the intern. I received a well-structured project outline and I have set up my internship goals with my hiring manager who provide a very good support. In terms of social event, I feel like there was a fair mix of learn and play time with other interns.

This is one of the main reason I chose to continue working here at Expedia. I have been given the project that came out to deliver high value and impact to the business and I got recognised well from my colleagues. Moreover, when everything didn't go as planned, the team is still supportive.

I have a regular one on one with my manager. (at least twice a week but mostly daily chat) We came up with the learning plan and keep it updated towards the end of my internship. In addition, I was connected to different people in other teams to learn what they are working on too.

The workload is fair and the working hour is somewhat flexible. There was no pressure from my manager or anyone on the working hours which I need to deliver. I was busier towards the end of my internship, but it's fair as I was in the period of transitioning to full-time employee.

The project assigned was in the high priority and the business people also have their eyes on it. Apart from the internship project, I got a chance to involve in the daily tasks required such as the prioritisation meeting, went for a meeting with my manager, and gave my inputs to some other projects.

Internship has taken what I've learnt and apply to the business. The most critical thing I learnt was around communication the result of my analysis and how to package the key takeaways to action. It is a highly valuable for me as I came from the tech background and would require to develop my communication and business acumen.

It was a mix of fun and focus. People in the team are really close to each other and we usually went for lunch together. However, as half of the team is in other countries, there were not so many face-to-face meeting and the meetings were run on conference call which is not ideal to collaborate.

The organisation of the internship programme is fantastic. We started from the company overview presentation and went deeper down into each brand that I am going to work for. However, the exit process at the end of the internship is left unclear and different interns went through different processes depending on their own developed approaches.

I can feel that the company has invested a lot of resource in terms of people who will be the mentor and manager of the intern. This could be a huge cost to the business (as the time of manager is highly valuable). Moreover, many senior management level (especially the CEO) also hosted a session with interns.

The company itself has a really good learning and open culture. The working environment is modern and people respect each other. If someone is looking for the job in a well-balanced workload and learning curve, Expedia Group is one of the best companies that can provide this. However, the only struggle is the hiring process which sometimes can take longer than 8 weeks.

Keeping the idea that we are in London zone one in mind, I would say the area around Angel station is not shockingly expensive. There are countless activities that you can do around the area ranging from running by the canal to the giant shuffle board. Each of these acitvities would be less than 10 mins away.

The culture of the company is very open. There are many clubs and activities that you can join, and the company also provide some support to accommodate most of the activities. If you find some activities that you like but there is nothing related to that yet, you can start one!
