    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship to the fullest because I always felt very valued at Expedia. Any employee will receive a great training schedule with lots of attention to detail, making sure everyone fits into the company. My manager in Manchester was amazing and we had a really good team. There was a lot to learn but it was done very well.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The colleagues at Expedia are great. They pay a lot of attention to what kind of team they have and what people would fit in the team. Great attention from the HR and hiring department for this. My colleagues were nice and helpful from the very beginning, making me feel part of the team quickly

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The team manager was very good. From the beginning he took on his role of a supervisor/mentor/manager and made sure that me and the other new starter had no issues getting used to the new environment. He always made sure we had enough to do in the beginning and was on top of everything.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • We were kept busy, but with a very good balance. I've been with companies where it felt like you had to figure out everything yourself and just decide what to do. That was not the case here, enough work was given in the beginning to get used to the job and the balance afterwards was always good. Work hard Play hard

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my placement the responsibility was good. I think we all understand that, as an intern, we couldn't carry too much responsibility but at the same time we have been given projects to show that you are able to manage yourself and take ownership of something. This was a good way to show what you're capable off.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • To the fullest. I sometimes regret leaving the company after having worked there for 2 years. But Expedia is all about growing as a professional and assists any employee in finding their path. Be it in the training they give or the individual guidance, it's always been a real pleasure to work there and I can recommend anyone to do the same.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was good. Like I said before, the company makes sure that they have different kind of people with different kinds of personality. They make sure the team fits and offers the best possible working results. We always knew how to have fun with each other and there was a good level of mutual respect towards everyone.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was set up brilliantly. I've never seen a company that has been able to set up an internship with so much detail and eye for the future as with Expedia. Everything is done with a focus on development and benefit for both the company and the intern. I was always amazed by this.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • This was another part where I felt really valued. Expedia puts a lot of time, money and resources in continuous training for their employees and sends you to workshops and individual training programs for what is most needed to fully help a specific intern or employee. I loved the training parts.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If you do a good job and show that you are invested with the company, they will make sure to get you on board for after your internship. For me personally they have gone out of their way to offer me a full-time contract and that showed a lot of dedication and trust from their part.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes there was. You can't always make sure that you become best friends with who ever you work with but during my time with Expedia I definitely made some friends and we made sure to spend social time with all the colleagues every now and then. This was both in and outside of work hours.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I did my placement in the UK, which can be an expensive country at times. But Manchester has some very competitive prices for both living and socialising. I can't complain about the prices here and was never put in a position where i couldn't do something because of financial reasons.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It was good. I think Manchester is quite known for its nightlife with lots of different bars and clubs. I don't think it matters what you are looking for, you'll find what you want for sure. I didn't do a great amount of partying but if we did want to we always had a good time.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I don't feel necessarily that Expedia organised a lot of after work activities to get involved in, but there were times that we all went out together, did a group activity or a pub quiz or something. But this was usually just something we organised with the group of colleagues.
