  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement at GE gave me a great insight into what life is really like working in industry.

  • Great community feeling between all interns on site. This included activities and nights out.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At the start of placement i was assinged a placement mentor on site. This was someone who I could go to if any problems arised.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It was a good balance of being assigned tasks and finding my own projects. I never felt like I was wasting my while on placement.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • At the start I was limited to how much I could take on but after training I was able branch out.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Everyone around sight was very approachable and gave me knowledge into manufacturing which I can't learn from a book.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was approachable and I worked well with other graduates/interns.

  • Induction into the placement went smooth but there was little in terms of training.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Training on site was at bare minimum. Any additional training was up to you to find but there was no platfrom for this.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • GE is a great company to work with it's benefits and flexibility to work at so many sites.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Socials were great but it was up to the interns to organize and fund then. We were promised a team who would work on planning events but this never came about.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Southampton was a great area to live plently of things to do and places to see. However, it was a was costly to live near the site.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife great in Southampton as there are plenty of bars and clubs to see.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • It was up to the interns to organize activities outside of work but GE gave us a great platform to do so.
