    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I absolutely loved my placement year at Worcester Bosch. Throughout my placement I had a lot of support and guidance from my manager which enabled me to get involved with so much within the company. I got involved with charity events and reward events within the company which was great to do alongside my job role.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The environment in the office was so welcoming, I felt comfortable enough to speak to all of my colleagues and go to them if I needed help. At all levels of management, there was never a feeling that 'you're just an intern' or given the 'intern jobs'. I was able to approach all people within the organisation and it did feel like a very big family.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager gave me a lot of support throughout my placement along with other managers in the office. I obtained a lot of knowledge from my manager at the beginning of my placement and was able to put this into practice throughout my placement year. My manager was always able to guide me into the right sort of path I was going for and always supported my ideas.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the beginning of my placement, I was given a handover from the previous intern which was beneficial to the start of my placement. I was able to monitor my work load throughout my placement and was in charge of my own time and my own projects which I was working on.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility on my placement, I was coordinating and hosting workshops throughout the year for my department. During my placement I hosted an event for the company which was open to the public which was very rewarding. I was also given responsibility of my time whilst on placement.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel now coming back to university that I know what skills employers are looking for and how to approach certain situations. I would say that my placement year has given me a better understanding of a working life. I received so much training on my placement and I can now use my problem solving and analytical thinking when returning to university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was lovely, it felt very family orientated meaning that everyone was there to support each other. There was a good level of socialising and working, with everyone being able to get on in the office. We would have free fruit throughout the week and this was a nice touch.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My internship was organised, HR were a good support throughout the year along with my office. I had an intern guide and information on the company when I started so I felt very included. Even though a lot of my internship was what you wanted in to be, I was guided in the correct way in order to achieve great things.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • At the beginning of my placement I had a lot of training in place to get me started. I was also allowed to partake in a variety of knowledge burst sessions throughout the year. My manager was interested in what fields I may be interested in the future which allowed me to decide if I wanted to job shadow anyone.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Luckily for me, I finished my internship with a graduate career opportunity! There was the opportunity if you were recognised by your manager to be accepted on to the students@Bosch scheme which gives you a good chance to return to the company in the future. I have also been able to continue to work for the organisation when returning to university.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was 5 interns in my office and around 70 interns in the organisation. This allowed us to share our experiences and have another support. This was also good at the weekend as many of the interns weren't from the area so they had people to socialise with and to make more friends.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was pretty cheap and there were student houses in the area which are easy to find online. In town there are a variety of bars, restaurants and clubs which are reasonably priced. There were a good amount of student deals available and Birmingham is only a 30 min train away.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was good, there is a variety of pubs, bars and night clubs which are open at the weekends. There is a university in the city so there was always events on at the weekend which we were able to go to. There was always something on at the weekend and even in the week.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Throughout the year there was a variety of things to get involved in, the company were always supporting the local community and getting stuck in with helping.
