    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a very enjoyable internship. The team I worked in within Operations were very welcoming, and helped answer any questions I had about the department and wider business. The breadth of tasks I was given were wide and allowed me to develop and enhance a wide variety of skills.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues. Once I was trained up which took a couple of weeks they were good enough to trust me to complete a variety of tasks. Further to this, they would involve me in much of the communication that was going in the team and department.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given plentiful support by my manager. Although my actual manager is based in the Edinburgh office and I was based in London, he emphasised the fact I could get in touch with him if I ever had a problem. Throughout the ten weeks he would ask regularly how I was getting on. He was very helpful throughout the process,

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied day to day on how busy I was. As my role was to pick up on any tasks that the team couldn't complete in time, some times I was very busy and other days I was quite bored. However I could shadow and listen in on tasks to help broaden knowledge.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Quite a large amount of responsibility. For the tasks I was given, I was awarded quite a lot of responsibility. I communicated with stake holders and contacts in and outside the company. However I would have enjoyed completing more tasks on a more regular basis as it would have given me more responsibility.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills developed will help me significantly when I return to complete my degree. Communication, analysis and team work will be they key skills I will take away. As I will be studying large swathes of content and working in different teams when I return to university , the work completed while at ASI will hold me in good stead.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very positive in the office. Everyone was cheerful and positive about their work. If an incident arose everyone worked together to try and solve it in a positive manner. My team were talkative and approachable which was a reflection of the office. Nothing could have been different to improve the atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well set up. HR ensured we new how to use the software on out computers and sent us weekly emails with development sessions. These sessions were very well run. Also we were given full transparency over how we would be assessed over the ten weeks, which ultimately built up to our end of internship presentations.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The personal training was very strong. They invested in a variety of sessions to improve a variety of skills. Whether it was on excel, presenting, working within a team - it was very impressive. I think this was the best aspect of the internship, and will cherish the skills I have learnt as a result of this.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing however not in my department. I have enjoyed Operations but would like to work within another department, for example investments or distribution as I believe the tasks will be more suited to me. HR have been very clear as to the channels I need to go through, so future employment prospects seems looks positive.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, there was a very positive social scene. All the interns socialised during lunch and after work. We had a texting group where we could meet up for drinks. As the location was so handy for travel, everyone could afford to stay after work on the whole. This was a great facet of the placement.
