The Role
I really enjoyed working at Nissan. Before coming to Nissan, I didn't really know what I wanted to do, now I have a better understanding of which job role I want to be in.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues. My mentor and manager were always there for support and guidance. The team were always so helpful and always pointed me in the right direction.
I was assigned a mentor when I arrived and they have helped me throughout the year. If I had any issues I was able to ask them and they would always be there to help.
It was a bit of a mix, there was a time a was between projects and didn't have much work and there was other times I had lots of work. I was involved in 5 main projects and had a lot of smaller side projects throughout the year.
At the beginning it was quite slow but I think this was because I was getting used to the company and finding my footing. As the year went on I was trusted with more and more work and I felt like an essential part of the team.
When coming to Nissan I mainly wanted to improve my programming skills which I did. I was given the chance to work with Angular, Java, Python, Typescript and Javascript. I was also given the change to attend presentation and an assertive skills course. I was also able to attend a 2 week training course aimed at IT/IS that was taught by previous placement students which really helped to develop my skills. I feel that the knowledge has helped me to grow professionally and will also help me when heading back to complete my degree.
The Company
It was very calm however I know its not the same in all departments. I was lucky that my department was like that.
I thought it was very well organised. We had a team that was there to support us throughout the placement that we could go to any time and there was work ready for us when we first got here.
The team was always there too help. If I had any questions members of the team would take time out their day and help me.

Working from home
I am still unsure if I would apply here but the year was really good.
The Culture
The social side was really good. The placements organised events between ourselves. We all got along well. Also had a Christmas do with the company which was great.
Being in the Sunderland / Newcastle area everything is relatively cheap.
Really good. Went out in Newcastle more than in Sunderland.
They had football that some people were apart of on a Tuesday.
