    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at L'Oreal. I worked in the new brand therefore I don't think I could have asked for a more exciting area of the company to work in! My expectations were met and exceeded and I enjoyed the level of responsibility I had in the role.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • If I'm honest, I didn't feel as welcomed as I would have liked. However I think employees at L'Oreal are used to the high turnover in interns every year that they aren't particularly phased by welcoming new people into the business, especially as I arrived 6 months after all of the other interns.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was in a small team therefore I felt I was given a huge amount of support directly from my line manager. He was very approachable and always made me feel comfortable in the tasks I was carrying out. However I do feel he could have given me more guidance of what was expected of me as the months went on.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was really pleased with how busy I was on a daily basis - I think it is always better to be busy as I'm more productive as a result. I wouldn't say I ever felt under too much pressure, but just the right amount in order to achieve a lot in a comfortable amount of time.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Due to being in such a small team, I was given the opportunity to take on as much responsibility as I wanted to really! Which was great as I feel like I learnt so much in such a little time. I was very content with the amount of responsibility i had in my role.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • 100% I have gained a variety of transferable skills that I can use later on in life! Whether that be at L'Oreal on the grad scheme or in a different industry - I believe that experience in the workplace is invaluable. I have learnt a lot about self-management and self-motivation.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I liked the general atmosphere in the office, however I didn't feel as though there was great communication or relationships between brands/teams. It is quite segregated and cleaky I would say! Having said this, everyone was very polite to me but I missed saying hello to multiple people in the morning!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • HR were great and very communicative from the start. I was always informed and knew exactly what needed to be done or where I was meant to be when. I appreciated how formal the internship review procedure was as I think this is such an important aspect to ensure you get the most out of your internship as possible!

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The learning team at L'Oreal are great. Following a few mandatory training sessions, including asking for/giving feedback etc I was inspired to try out more of them! I think they are really helpful and it is also a great way to meet other people. The training and development is definitely readily available.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are rather promising. I am very interested in the management trainee scheme as it is 18 months whereby you can do 3 rotations. The opportunity to experience and work in 3 contrasting brands across the business is truly invaluable! I look forward to hopefully returning to L'oreal in the future.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Not particularly if I am honest, compared to my previous placement where we went for drinks after work most Fridays! In my 5 months there was only 1 work social for my division which i was quite disappointed with if I am honest! However you could take it upon yourself to organise something.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I mean it's London so its never going to be cheap but Hammersmith isn't central so it isn't as exortionate as other places probably! I rented very close to the office and feel as though I am paying a very fair price for the condition of my flat. Hammersmith is definitely more affordable than other areas in London.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Hammersmith doesn't have many clubs but you don't have to go far to get to one! London is full of them so it is very easy to find nightlife a tube ride away! Or borris bikes if you're that keen. I don't think this is a super important factor if i am honest.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The intern committee are great at L'Oreal and organise a running club that run a 5K every week. They also organise yoga on a weekly basis as well as netball and football teams I believe! Many employees in the building go to spin classes or gymc lasses together as well!
