The Role
The placement was a really good insight into the retail industry and was great to see how a huge business works. I was able to work on exciting projects also and felt like an integral member of my team. The placement was also really well supported by the L+D team at ASOS.
I felt valued by my colleagues and was asked always about my opinion. I did not really feel like an intern and felt I was able to contribute and be involved in projects that I was working on. I also felt everyone did listen to me and take my thoughts into consideration.
My manager was great and I was always supported. I always felt I could ask any questions and my regular 1-1’s were really beneficial. The learning and development team were also really helpful with any sort of queries I had and was always there to support any queries I had.
I was never overly busy or never not busy, it was a perfect amount of work. If I did ever felt stressed it was really easy to tell my team that I would be unable to help due to my work load. I had always enough to do that felt relevant but did not stress me out.
I was involved in a lot of projects and my opinion was always considered. I was always involved in projects that I was interested in, for example I would let my manager know if I was interested in a project that someone else in my team was running and then they would help me get involved in the project.
Regarding working life after university, my placement year has really helped me with my decisions in regard to my future career and what I want to do and acheive. It has also taught me the relevant skills for working life and has prepared me for what is to come after university.
The Company
The atmosphere at ASOS is very much ‘buzzing’. Everyone is extremely passionate about what they do and really embed the companies values and culture. It is a really fun place for a student to experience and work at and the overall atmosphere is exciting and positive.
The L+D were really good with structuring the placement. From monthly meetings to organising presentations for us to do to the CEO, execs, managers and the board. We also were also really guided and supported by them and had a great graduation ceremony.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
It is really appealing. ASOS is a great company for someone going out of University to work for as it is such a young company that thrives of its employees ideas and contribution to the company. It also has a really good social side and really embodies its values and makes sure that the employees really do stick to them.
The Culture
The interns got on really well and although it was really hard to meet outside of work hours, when we did meet during our placement workshops we got on very well with eachother and everyone was very friendly. The social scene was quite hard due to getting everyone together but when we did it was really fun!
If you did not mind spending a bit of money then the price was not that bad. However due to being in London the prices were quite high and could be seen as pricey to those who are used to quite cheap prices that we are used to being at University. However, this is just the usual London prices! I also lived at home so can not answer the cost of living.
Being in Camden there is so much to do regarding Nightlife. You are also opposite a tube station so you can easily go anywhere in London and with Kings Cross ten minutes up the road it was really easy to go there as a central point to travel to other nightlife destinations. Camden however is really fun!
Yes! There were many sports teams and there was a gym onsite as well. There was also volunteering opportunities at ASOS where you could volunteer somewhere for a day. The company are really keen in ensuring that people do give a day away. There is also a lot of fundraising going on in the offices also. If there was something someone wanted to set up, this was really easy to do also!
