    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The people at Travelport are great! Everybody is friendly and helpful, the placement itself wasn't great. Didn't have much to do most of the time and the work that I was doing wasn't what I would class as Marketing, more admin jobs which can make a day extremely long.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team, especially my manager, made me feel very welcome and were a joy to work with.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a huge amount of support from both my manager and the marketing director

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • 9 times out of 10 I was extremely bored, didn't have an awful lot to do. Spoke with members of other teams to ask for work but was never given anything that I felt was teaching me about marketing. I did have a couple of weeks where my manager and marketing director were on leave so I was asked to oversee a regional campaign alongside some other marketing directors but once they were back in the office I wasn't really involved from this point onwards.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Other than the campaign that I oversaw whilst my managers were on holiday, I wasn't given much responsibility as I wasn't given much work to do. It was mostly copying and pasting text onto emails or passing on text to the digital team to update the website.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I did not feel that I was developing my skills the way they should've been on this placement so I left the placement early and returned to uni for final year. Being back at uni now has shown me that the time I did spend at Travelport has not assisted my studies in the slightest.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was extremely quiet, there wasn't much conversation or 'fun' - would definitely want a more lively atmosphere in my future career.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was well organised, I just feel that the marketing internship was not advertised well during the recruitment process and it was not made clear what I would be doing - all of which I fed back before I left so hopefully this has been sorted out in time for the 2018 intake.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My manager was great in terms of support and development, she was always more than happy to sit down with me and go through things that I didn't understand. I wouldn't say that the company as a whole invested much into my time there.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I definitely would not return to Travelport.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene amongst the interns was okay, but there was a lot of tension between us due to the charity work that we were expected to do so there weren't many times that we all spent together.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I didn't work in the area but from my understanding of those who did work there, there wasn't an awful lot to do in Slough but there were surrounding areas that were easy to get to that had a lot to do.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife is Slough is shocking. London is just a train ride away so there are better options there but it's just more expensive.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there was a Social Club that you could join for discounted ticket prices on a variety of activities.
