    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a great office environment and the opportunities available were perfect to get my professional career firmly established. I really enjoyed the daily tea and biscuit as an afternoon break and a chance to get involved in the office puzzle.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • A bleeding edge project was out of bounds for a person of my skill level but this was the only negative in this category. At all other times I was considered and equal part of the team and was expected to deliver.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The Global Early Talent team were always around to help with any issues I had with work. Everyone in the office was friendly and more than happy to help with technical questions and guidance I needed.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was able to get most of my work done within working hours. My work load was manageable and allowed me to relax every now and then.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a large amount of responsibility while working at Expedia. The most responsibility came in my final two months after I moved to a new team and helped reimagine their largest project.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Expedia helped me find what I enjoy and showed me two sides of a software company (front and back-end) I was able to gain new interests and learned many skills which I have immediately taken through to my studies.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I really enjoyed my time in the office culture. The breakfasts, tea breaks and TedX style talks was a great way to socialise with everyone in Expedia and take a short break from work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • In our first month or so, we were invited to multiple InfoBytes where we learned about the company and were given insights into how the company works. The placement team also made sure we were involved in hackathons, company events and intern socials to make sure we all had access to the most Expedia had to offer.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invests in everyone's learning with internal codeacademy sessions allowing everyone to learn new skills to take forward into their work. Code retreats were held to improve the quality of code of developers. This was done just for interns and grads and then repeated for all employees which allowed us to learn techniques from full-time devs. I was pointed in the direction of the bookshelf with great information for development work.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was offered a position at Expedia for when I finish my studies

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene between interns and grads was always pushed

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Socialising in London is always expensive although Angel was quite reasonable in comparison. Living in the area is very expensive however.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are selection of very nice pubs and bars in the area around the office with a large choice for those that want to break the company norm

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are events outside of work if you ask people about things you are interested in. These are usually organised by word of mouth
