  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given help whenever I needed it. People in my team took the time to teach me the tools and help me get up to speed. I was put in contact with the right people to help me in my project. The feedback loop in the team was very good and I never felt like there was something I couldn't ask.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my time at Expedia. I was assigned a large project for the whole summer and worked together with my manager to continuously set and update goals. It felt great to work on an open ended project where my input was valued. The project made me more responsible and organised.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Rather than having a lot of generic training taking up the time, Expedia training was very focused on the skills required for the role. The general interest session were very well ran and there were plenty of opportunities to learn about other areas of the company. I received invaluable training that will help me in my studies and beyond.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is amazing. All the meeting rooms are themed, there are drinks fridges everywhere and the coffee is amazing. People are very friendly, there are spaces to relax and work alone if you need to but also spaces to socialise. The company invests in social events such as breakfasts, team outings etc.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The Expedia intern programs are constantly growing and getting better. The internship was very well set up, with a large group of us all starting at the same time. There were opportunities to get to now each other in a relaxed setting doing team building activities around the office. There were events organised to get to know the rest of the companies and amazing parties to celebrate the start and end of summer.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I came to the team knowing nothing about the area that I got asked to worked in. I received formal training on the division that I work in but also constant one to one help from my manager to understand the organisation. The culture of feedback is very strong here so I was always receiving and giving feedback in order to help me grow. There are opportunities to learn about soft skills and how to develop yourself.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns got along really well and we got to know each other through the events we attended. There were frequent lunches and drinks together. The channels of communication were always buzzing with chats and the internal and external events really helped us bond. I have made valuable connections and friendships during my time here.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The company runs a day of caring in which we got the chance to volunteer for the community and make an impact outside the office. There are courses to help you perfect your language and tech skills. There's also a big focus on improving the recruitment process. The affinity and diversity groups have loads of events you can attend. Lastly, in such a cool office a lot of external organisations and groups run their events that you can attend (ie. external speakers, networking nights)
