    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The company was welcoming, nobody ever laughed at my silly questions even if I asked the same one more than twice. I often did a lot of pairing in the beginning which made me feel a lot more comfortable and helped me settle in as I was nervous I wouldn't be good at my job.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like I was an actual employee not just a temporary intern. Everyone treated me the way they would treat other employees, I was working on the same things projects other employees were, using the same tools. My colleagues always made me feel like I was contributing and doing valuable work.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Monthly 1-2-1's with my director to catch up on how I feel things are going any concerns I have, if I'm settling in and things like that. I also had weekly 1-2-1's with my scrum master to discuss what i achieved in the last week, weekly goals, what I will try to achieve in the coming week.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was always work to do so I was never bored, but you were also free to take a break and chill if you needed it. There were arcade rooms to just sit and relax if you felt like you needed some time away from the work. And if you felt like there was not enough work you could always ask for more

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My work started off slow to get you me the work flow, let me get used to the tools and technologies used within the team. As time goes on responsibility builds up, you're treated as any other employee and you work on the same projects that they do.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Definitely helped make me write cleaner code, and code that is fit for production. At university the code you write is very basic and inefficient. Training has helped me realise the value of efficient and manageable code, you're not the only owner other people need to be able to see it and know what is going on.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was friendly, super welcoming, a lot of networking/social events to talk to other colleagues. It is a very creative space, it's decorated in a way that makes you feel like you want to work you're not restricted in a little box it's open plan so you can go and ask anyone questions whenever you need to

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It's a very self motivated environment, placements can be tailored to the person and I prefer more structure so when I asked for structure and goals my scrum master made sure I had weekly goals. In my weekly catch ups with my scrum master we would discuss the extent to which I've met my goals.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company made sure I was fully comfortable before I started working on things that would be in production. When I felt like I wasn't ready and needed more training I let my manager know and they reached out to members of the team who could help me where I was struggling.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are a lot of opportunities to come back as long as you do well. As long as you can do your job, you show that you enjoy the work you're doing, you're a good team player it looks like there will be a place for you to come back. Most interns/placements transition onto graduate roles from what I hear

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • My team was very social they would invite me to eat lunch together everyday and at least once a week we would go and socialise in the pub after work. The intern/grad group would also often eat together and go for drinks after work, there were also a lot of company welcome events to meet other people.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Food in the area was a little expensive with market food around £6-8, although there were cheaper options around such as Mcdonalds, Subway or even going to Sainsburys/Waitrose. Rent in the area is expensive although I lived from home so I didn't have to pay any living costs since I lived with my parents

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are a lot of pubs that close late within 5-10 minutes of the office, it was well connected to the underground so you were close to central london where there are loads of nightclubs and bars. There's a lot do in Central London late at night so it was nice being close to there

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are monthly breakfasts, company drinks and loads of work socials to be involved in. There's loads of activities like Shuffle Board or even Ball Pit bars nearby, being in London it is close to a lot of different variety of activities. Office was close to Shoreditch and Camdem which are known for wide range of activities.
