    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement. The work was really varied, looking at a broad range of different clients across multiple industries. In addition I was given the opportunity to spend a few days with other parts of the business.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Despite being an intern my team made a real effort to welcome me and listen to ideas that I contributed. People seemed to value the work I did and always thanked me for my efforts.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My counselling manager met up with me every couple of days which is way over and above the requirement of 3 counselling meetings over the 6 week internship. She was really accommodating with giving me time to explore other areas of the business that interested me, even if that meant spending less time doing work for my home team.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had work to do and enough to get me through the day without being bored. What was good is that this was balanced well with reasonable working hours and expectations - I could always complete my work in normal working hours.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I didn't get a lot responsibility and everything I did had to be reviewed down to checking my emails before I sent them out. This was a bit frustrating but I recognise that the work I was involved in was very sensitive, so this was appropriate.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained technical skills in the service line I went on to join as a graduate. I also learnt a wide range of transferable business skills and project management skills which would have set me up well for a variety of careers. In addition EY uses the SMART method for setting goals, which I found invaluable for my final year at uni and into my professional life.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very welcoming and friendly. People of all grades were very receptive to my questions and were willing to dedicate time to my learning. There is a clear structure of hierarchy at EY, but partners are still open and very willing to talk to the interns. The open plan office with no senior people having their own offices helps the atmosphere.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised. Really detailed briefing packs and all expectations were clearly set out. The whole thing ran very smoothly.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I received 1 week of training as part of my internship. My counsellor and senior staff members spent a lot of time one on one with me which I didn't expect. Partners were very receiptive to meeting to discuss areas I was interested in that they were involved in.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. EY has a really well renowned grad scheme with a huge range of opportunities.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We had a lot of evening events organised for us which was a great way to meet colleagues. The intake as a whole was open, friendly and fun which is characteristic of the EY team in the wider firm. I am still in touch with some of the cohort 2 years on.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Central London was very expensive but we were paid enough to cover these costs.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Central London has a huge variety of nightlife and the possibilities are pretty much endless.

    4/5
