The Role

The Role

1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

To say I enjoyed my 12-month work placement at Warner Bros. UK would be a vast understatement. There was not a day that went by where I wasn’t excited to go into work and immerse myself in the challenges that were put in front of me. It was one of the best experiences of my life!

2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

Whenever I discuss my Placement, I always say that one of the best parts of my experience at Warner Bros. UK was how I was continually involved and consulted on every day business decisions. I continually felt valued by not only my immediate team, but also the wider teams within the business. I felt more like an entry-level Executive rather than an Undergraduate on Placement.

3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

While I knew I could always ask my line managers for their opinions on things, there were times when I felt I could have been offered more guidance in order to further improve my own learning and development. I do, however, understand that my lines managers were very busy with their own tasks and duties.

4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

Throughout my whole 12 months at Warner Bros. UK, there was never a day when I wasn’t busy - which is great if you like having plenty of things going on.

5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

As I have previously mentioned, one of the best parts of my experience at Warner Bros. UK was how I was continually involved and consulted on every day business decisions. I was also given a number of projects over the year to coordinate and manage which gave me real responsibility.

6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

The skills I learned and acquired during my 12 months at Warner Bros. UK will, I have no doubt, assist me throughout my final year at University and beyond. A skill that my Placement has taught me the value of particularly well is time management. I will now make much better use of the spare time that I have during my final year.

The Organisation

7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

The atmosphere in the office was always fun. For me, there was never a day where I found myself wanting to not go into work because of the atmosphere. It struck the perfect balance of being relaxed, but not too relaxed! It was always a friendly, welcoming and comfortable place to be.

8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

For the 2016/17 intake, the Placement scheme at Warner Bros. UK was set-up well. I have no complaints regarding my Internship’s set-up.

9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

Throughout my 12 months at Warner Bros. UK, the company did invest time and resources into my development. They coordinated a number of training sessions for Interns (roughly one every two months I would say). These ranged from sessions on presentation skills to sessions on personality types and how different individuals operate in the workplace.

10. What were the perks on your work placement?

  • Flexi Time
  • Subsidised Canteen
  • Sports and Social Club
  • Company Car
  • Subsidised/Company Gym
  • National Travel
  • International Travel
  • Financial Bonus
  • Company Parties/Events
  • Staff Sales/Staff Shop
  • Above 25 days holiday
  • Working from home
  • Healthcare from home
  • Healthcare/Dental
  • Travel loan

11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

I would relish at the chance to go back and work at Warner Bros. UK sometime in the future. The work was fun while all the time being challenging and stimulating.

12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

If you ask anyone who works and lives in London they will all say the same thing: it’s not cheap! However, there were lots of social events at Warner Bros. UK, organised by the company, where the drinks were free (which was great for those of us on Placement!) Also, as students, we were pretty quick to find the places that were more wallet-friendly!

14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?

It was London! 10/10.

15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

Hmm, there were a few of opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work but not loads. During my time at Warner Bros. UK, I was asked to play in the company’s five-a-side football team and participate in Centrepoint’s “Sleep Out,” a charitable event to help raise money and awareness for homeless young people in the U.K.
