    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Fantastic placement year with so many learning's and variance. Extremely fast paced so will prepare you for any work environment both inside and outside of L'Oreal.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Highly valued by both my direct team and other departments within my brand. You really are valued as an equal member of the group!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • To begin with, a very fast handover was carried out from the previous placement student. Therefore it was important that I received extra support and guidance from my manager to help understand the complexity of the brand I was working for. As time progressed so did my knowledge of operations within the brand resulting in me only needing to ask for guidance when required.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • HECTIC! Working at L'Oreal is extremely fast paced and sporadic in nature.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was very surprised how quickly the responsibility came through on my placement - which I personally found excellent and extremely rewarding! The more details and complexity I managed the better understanding I attained in my work. The teams at L'Oreal tend to be very 'lean' meaning that there are less people than you think operating a brand; consequently the workload is split between less people.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • For my degree it will be mainly time management. I feel my year at L'Oreal has been invaluable with experiencing the real world of working at a large corporate company .Project management is a very prevalent, re-occurring element that I have furthered in my skillset.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very hectic - but an overall feeling of being in a close team.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • For me the application and interview process was extremely long and un-organised. However, I will say that I appreciated the effort that went into L'Oreal HR finding a good fit in a division that suited me. I feel that once you are allocated your team then the journey begins that will fit in the style of the division and brand you have been assigned.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Basic HR style training was given which was to me very obvious, the same goes for other compulsory trainings. I would say however that it is what you make it and the more you reach out to people expressing an interest to learn the more that you will get back. People at L'Oreal are very open to helping and supporting the learning's of others.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • From an early stage in my internship year the opportunities for graduate jobs were communicated. However, there are not a big variety of streams (marketing, commercial sales, supply chain or finance) which was suitable for me but I know other interns who felt frustrated that there wasn't a graduate scheme for their field of work.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Again, it is what you make of it. There was a intern committee who were a focal point of contact and communication for all interns. Socials/parties were also organised every other month on average which were great for getting to know the wider groups outside your division.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Extremely high - my salary paid for my accommodation and not much else (it's London!).

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London has it all!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes - from sports teams to charity events. There were many options if you wanted to get involved.

    4/5
