    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My overall experience was very disappointing, for me there was not enough challenge in the work for me to be engaged. There was not enough maths or reliability in this job. There was no creativity in the job that I was given. It would have been nice to see variety.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was an amazing boss to work for; he would help me with anything that I asked about. He was a very easy boss to talk to about anything that I needed to speak about. He would give me the hard work to do and for that I thank him.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most of my days I was left with way too much free time left on my hands; due to the easiness of the work I was given. They could have given me more jobs that I had to do each day, this would have given me more to do and made the job less boring.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • 3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • For me this job was a test to see if I wanted to try something that wasn’t part of my course. For that this job was a success of what I don’t want to do when I graduate. That is why my rating is such a low value out of ten.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere is normally very friendly within the office. There are normally celebrations within the office about a good marketing sales pitch or a good sales month. The office can be very quiet at times which bring down the atmosphere. So overall the office is an just an average office.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From the start this was not a very well organised work placement, it takes a long time to hear about a stage that you have previously completed. I only found out a month before that I was going to be in London and 1 week before what department I am going to be in.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I will not be applying for a job at the firm for reasons that I have given before. This is not the industry that I want to work in in the future and that is not entirely the firms fault. I want to work in the engineering industry for my future career.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is a meet up every month at a bar within the out skirts of London. It was very disappointing each time and for me it was never a great night to go too. Normally at least an hours journey to the pub of choice and it was normally quite boring.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • This being London it was always going to be very expensive. For me I thought it was a waste of money as rent took up more than half of my income. This meant that I was unable to enjoy my internship to its fullest. But this was always going to be the case.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was only one choice of sport for me to choose from; Football for the guys and Volleyball for the girls. As a guy who does not enjoy football it meant that I had no choices for a sport to do after work which is a big shame for me.
