    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found a lot of the work quite interesting and enjoyed the tasks and challenges I faced. At times when there wasn't much work to do it could get quite boring. I also enjoyed the 'extra curricular' activities that went on around the office.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt highly valued by my colleagues, as if I was 'one of them' and not just an intern. Within a few months I already had members of team asking me for advice, rather than the other way around. I felt like my work was really appreciated.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was assigned a buddy to begin with, and I also had a few regular meetings with my manager. After a while these died down, though I didn't feel as though I needed formal guidance, as I settled in well and understood the work.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days would be really busy, and I enjoyed this. At other times it could be quite quiet, and since I wasn't working on 'projects' I often found myself with little to do.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Once I understood the role, I was given the same level of responsibility as any other member of the team.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My confidence has grown enormously during my placement, and I've experienced many things that would help me in my future. I also have lots more to talk about on my CV and in job interviews.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Despite being an office of over 150 people, there was a strong community sense, and everyone really got along. There were lots of events, celebrating the Euros, international womens day etc, and also 2 office parties, at xmas at for a 'summer event'. Everyone was really friendly and approachable, so networking was very easy.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Onboarding etc prior to my first day was straight forward. Once I started the job it seemed less well set up, but they have since made an effort to streamline the intern experience for the future.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I pushed to go for any opportunities I wanted to, but I wasn't forced to do anything I wasn't interested in. My manager had the view that this was 'my' internship, and I should be able to get out of it anything I wanted to, whether personal or career related.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    Travel loan

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Currently the only graduate schemes involve 4 6 month rotations, something which I am not interested in. It would be possible to return once I graduate.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All the interns were introduced to eachother, and spent time together outside of work.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As the office was out of the city centre there were limitations on where to live, but rent prices weren't too bad. The cost of living was lower if living out of the city.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The office was close enough to Manchester to go out there, so nightlife was great as there are a huge variety of pubs/bars/restaurants/clubs etc.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were plenty of opportunities to join in with volunteering events, provided you didn't exceed the number of work hours that you used to do this.

    5/5
