Fantastic work placement with unlimited support and development throughout the year. A huge variety of work-load, experiences and extra activities to get involved in made my time at Lubrizol incredibly valuable. From presenting at team meetings, taking responsibility in leading projects and working with a range of different people across the business, I was able to extract huge amounts of knowledge and tips to enhance my skillset and employability!
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at Lubrizol because I was involved in innovative and exciting projects through-out the year. I contributed towards the development and planning stage of a new project which progressed to the initial testing phase – this was super rewarding to see before my placement finished! The company also provided a range of opportunities/activities which I got involved in including: STEM events, charity committee and poster competitions. Overall, the Hazelwood site is incredibly friendly and always willing to help and aid your learning over the year.
I very much enjoyed my time at Lubrizol. There was always something to keep busy with. Lubrizol has a sports and socials committee which helped organise events for students such as lasertag, munro bagging and gokartin.
Overall, I had an excellent experience at Lubrizol, the work that I was given was engaging and kept me highly motivated, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and the site facilities were particularly good. I felt that I was able to achieve a lot, and it is thanks to the good office atmosphere and company culture that provided me with a good environment to really extract the most out of my placement year. I was given plenty of encouragement and great opportunities for professional development, and so I can highly recommend Lubrizol as a great company to take your placement year with.
I really enjoyed working at my placement company. The role enabled me to develop a large range of skills and meet/communicate with a variety of people across the business. I took pride in the work that I underwent in both the routine testing and project. I particularly enjoyed being part of a large project group but still had a large amount of freedom in the work I carried out. I also enjoyed the fact there was a large student community at Lubrizol therefore I developed good friendships with students in different roles, this enabled a positive experience both in and out of work.
I've had a great year meeting various new people and made friends along the way which has made my placement a very enjoyable experience. Lubrizol have a fairly laid back approach to working which enabled me to settle in quickly and make the most out of the year. There was also the added advantage of feeling like I was still a uni student, with site being close to the city centre (rare for chemical companies), whilst working full time and earning a good salary.
I have really enjoyed my year working at Lubrizol in the performance coating group Blackley. It was a great experience and really opened my eyes to what working in the chemical industrial research is all about, and I now feel it is the path I want to follow after I finish my degree. Everyone at the Blackley site is helpful and approachable, which made me feel happy from my very first day and I think that allowed me to enjoy the placement as much as I have.
Really enjoyed my placement year at Lubrizol. The jobs that I was given to do were varied and challenging without being impossible. The people that I worked with were friendly and helpful and I really learnt a lot from them. They allowed me to learn a lot of practical skills that just aren't available at uni.
Working at Lubrizol has been a fantastic experience. I worked in the department of component science In Hazelwood, where the aim is to develop new molecules to be formulated into engine oils. Therefore if chemical synthesis is something you are interested in, I would highly recommend applying for this role. Throughout the year I have had the opportunity to improve skills, including: my ability to present in front of large audiences, manage my time effectively in the lab and work as a team to achieve industry set goals. Although the chemistry involved may not be as specialised as a pharma company, you will learn how to do reactions on a large scale (from 250 mL to 20 L) so that your processes are suitable for large scale production - this technique is not usually taught in undergraduate labs.
My placement year at Lubrizol was extremely exhilarating, insightful and enjoyable. In my first few weeks at Lubrizol, I was accompanied by the previous student. In this period, I was trained on the necessary equipment and introduced to my projects. At the end of the handover, I felt well prepared and excited to continue independently. It was clear from the start that the work I would be completing was meaningful and valuable to the company. For one of my main projects, I was responsible for running regular experiments. This involved running, maintaining and improving a piece of tribometry equipment. With aid from my supervisor, many large-scale improvements were made to the equipment throughout the year – this was hard work but very rewarding in the end!
I really enjoyed my placement year at Lubrizol. I found the research interesting and relevant to my degree. My project was appropriate for my final masters year and the support and skills developed while on placement enabled me to obtain a first for my final year marks. I also had the opportunity to develop skills non-academically through volunteering and getting involved in social activities such as badminton.
My placement year at Lubrizol is and will be one of the most memorable years of my life, I met amazing people and made some great friends. I felt that the department that I was working in (Applied & Strategic Research) had a family feeling about it which made it extremely easy to collaborate with colleagues.
I had a great time working within the chemical synthesis group at Lubrizol. From the beginning we were welcomed into a friendly, supportive group of full-time staff who mentored us closely throughout the year. Within a few weeks we felt confident to carry out independent work and generate our own ideas. Not only this but we had the opportunity to become fully involved within highly technical projects helping us develop key transferable skills.
I thoroughly enjoyed my year at Lubrizol within the Applied & Strategic Research department. I felt that many on site cared about our development over the course of our placement which created a very friendly working environment. I particularly enjoyed being able to direct my own research and my experiences played a key role in my decision to carry out a PhD - something which prior to starting my placement I was unsure of.
Would highly recommend, really enjoyed the experience of working for Lubrizol. I loved the working environment, my colleagues and the varied day-to-day activities. I felt like Lubrizol really values students on placement and wants them to succeed, so it’s a positive environment to work in, plus the site is lovely!
I thoroughly enjoyed working at Lubrizol for a number of reasons, but a big part of it was how supportive and friendly all of my colleagues were. This made working much more fun and there was a really good balance between work and social life, I would definitely go back.
I really enjoyed my placement at Lubrizol Hazelwood as an Automotive Test Engineer. During my two years at university, I learnt a lot of theory, this placement allowed me to apply some of this theory to the real world. I was given projects of my own to manage and complete, just like a full time engineer.
I really enjoyed my placement. I've had a fantastic year and I have learnt a lot. The working environment is excellent, the offices are comfortable and modern, the site is idyllic. There is a nice atmosphere on the site and the facilities are superb. I can honestly say this placement has redefinied what I class as work enjoyment and fulfillment.
