Placement (10 Months+)

What made you want to join Volkswagen Financial Services?

VWFS is a company that is so diverse due to the wide range of brands under the VWG portfolio. Because of this there is so much to learn, especially within the Customer Operations department. VWFS have also been names as one of the best student employers, which I can confirm is true and is another incentive to apply!

What are the highlights of your placement so far?

Firstly in the general the amount I have learned about the motor finance industry is incredible bearing in mind I had no previous experience in this field due to coming from a science-based background.

Secondly being involved in a professional environment for the first time has been a great experience for me. It has been amazing for my own personal development. In the 4 months I have been here I have already developed into a better more professional person.

Thirdly being directly involved in the department and having real responsibility is an amazing feeling.

And lastly getting a brand new 23 plate company car was a nice bonus!

How would you describe the culture at VWFS?

There is a lot of emphasis on your own personal development which I think is really important especially as a student. I have found the culture to be one that encourages you to grow and not shy away from things that will widen the breadth and depth of your knowledge.

What do you do on a day to day basis within your role?

The job description is pretty much bang on with what I do within my role. Although my role is constantly evolving and my priorities are always changing from month to month. I began my placement learning everything QA and following that supporting QA with their business as usual tasks – completing customer journeys was my main priority. I then started to support alongside Operational Compliance more actively. I was getting involved in important meetings with key stakeholders to do with operational risks in the department and in general supporting their business as usual tasks. Currently I am working alongside the team managers on supporting with the successful implementation of the new QA framework.

What advice would you give to a student following in your footsteps?

Be confident and don’t sell yourself short! You may not have a bank of knowledge regarding VWFS but be sure to research as much as you can! It’s a learning experience, and the best way to shape it into what you want it to be is by not being afraid to ask the questions, give your input and put forward your initiatives where appropriate. You will thank yourself for it in the end and so will your colleagues!
