    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the level of responsibility I was given and the steep learning curve that came with it. I didn't have any idea what i was going to be working on going in, so it was with surprise and delight that I discovered I would be setting my own deadlines, meeting stakeholders all over the business etc. I have enjoyed my time and would recommend it to everyone.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very as I was given my own project to oversee, which linked in with the work they were doing. So I was able to advise and offer my opinions to colleagues. I was invited to lots of different things and contributed to telcos, or took notes. I think my colleagues did value me and somebody is going to take over my projects when I leave.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a good level of support, including weekly one-to-ones with my manager. If I ever had an issue, my manager would be on hand to help. On the rare occasions she wasn't in the office, a member of the team was always on hand to assist me. My buddy (Nabeel) and the graduate (Laura) in my team were also really helpful and offered me lots of tips, especially around calibration.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very as I had a number of different tasks to juggle within my project, but the timelines aren't too strict so I can ease up at times. Even though I was busy, I really enjoyed being active and learning so much here. I enjoyed my time here so much precisely because I was so busy and was always kept moving by my team. I never lacked for something to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • | lot as I was tasked with overseeing the rebrand of NDC documents, refreshing the SEA collateral and upating the dial cards. I was responsible for driving this project forwards myself, and nobody on my team worked on this apart from me. I was engaged with many stakeholders and led numerous meetings and telecons.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The project management skills, in particular, will be really useful. I now use the RAG system and index matches. I consider myself to be much more efficient. Also this placement has massively enhanced my communication skills and confidence. I am not afraid to call people or arrange meetings if I need to understand particular aspects of a project better.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in my office was good but there were days where it was very quiet and I felt I didn't necessarily need to work in my office - I wish i could have used those days to go out to the sites. People were very friendly but it felt like there were definite divides between teams because of the way the offices were set up. Working in LSH was much better than being in Orbis.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think the internship was very organised and I never felt lost whilst I was in the office. I had a structured path to follow and was helped along by regular 121s. The placement events felt like they were well planned as well - and we really enjoyed those days together. The only problem was the living arrangements originally lacked clarity but this was eventually sorted.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think I was invested in a lot - I was given access to a lot of training (including clockwork and tone of voice training). I was taken to the CHI agency in London and talked around the advertising with the people who worked there. The investment over the period of 8 weeks was incredible and I feel i have taken a lot away from it. i would certainly say i am better at presenting than I was previously.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think these are good - I saw a lot of good things whilst I was here and would be really interested in learning more about the share scheme, the car schemes etc. I also think development opportunities are good having spoken to the grad in my team. She explained there were plenty of things you could do e.g. 6 Sigma, IDM to improve your skills.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a really good social scene among the grads and summer placements but not so good in the offices. People are different ages in the teams which can make things very difficult. The only other thing is that the area is very expensive which means you are quite limited on the offers you are able to take up. Some teams seem more generous with their expenses than others which felt a bit unfair occassionally.
