    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working as an HR generalist I had two main projects. One of them was to create a bespoke induction programme for new starters and the other was to support a reward automation project and evolve the job description library to align with reward templates. Day-to-day I would work on building my induction by researching the business (strategy, values, HR policies) while participating in HR meetings. I also spent time learning about reward.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed commercial awareness skills and improved my project management skills. Additionally I have been able to work on communicating effectively by adapting my style of speaking dependent on the purpose and my audience. Finally I am now increasingly able to work in a team as my collaboration with my charity challenge group led to us winning the charity challenge overall.

  • I was definitely given a lot of responsibility as I was entirely in charge of the induction programme and was allowed to take it any direction I wanted.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I felt incredibly supported throughout the placement as the EarlyCareers team were absolutely incredible and made sure we knew they were there to help with anything we needed. We also had a talent manager who constantly checked in on us in addition to our line manager who we liaised with day-to-day.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was fantastic and everyone was so welcoming and kind. Every single person I met was willing to help me and invested in my development.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I absolutely loved my 2 months at Centrica. I found it incredibly rewarding to be part of a company where people are so passionate about what they do and invested in your development. I also met some incredible people and am extremely grateful for that. It gave me a good taste of what HR is like as a career and I will definitely take learnings from this experience into my future endeavours.
