    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Generally the work I was given was enjoyable. The fact I wasn't given that much was the issue. I did, however, get the opportunity to explore the company in that I moved around departments after the initial 6 months.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were easy to get on with and easily approachable. However, were reluctant to pass off any work to me even if they were 'snowed under'.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • When required to learn any software/ go through work I had produced, the supervisors were very keen to do so and give good, constructive feedback where neccessary.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • A lot of the time I wasn't given enough work to do. I think it was underestimated how quickly I would do a piece of work and was only given one or two things at a time, instead of the rest of the department who usually have 7 or 8 things on at a time and could therefore dip in and out of them. As mentioned earlier, there was a reluctancy for colleagues to pass off work that could have been completed by myself to me, and whenever I was successfull in getting more work, it tended to be more admin based tasks.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Due to the lack of consistent work, the responsibility wasn't that great. I certainly wasn't 'running the show!'

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Mainly team based skills and specific computer software was learnt which is very useful in the coming years of my degree.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Open plan office, constant low buzzing of chat. Generally fairly good, a bit of generic 'office banter', but overall pretty standard.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Whole process was run well, from getting my initial manager and meeting with them. Maybe would be better if we were told what sort of thing we would do before going for the first day. Also trying to organise department changes within the placement to get a varied look at the company was pretty difficult!

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were free online courses about the company. I went on a training couple of days to learn the software required in my first 6 months. Apart from that, nothing much really.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been offered a summer placement with them for next year. After that they can offer me a Grad scheme place if i'm successful. I'm also doing my 3rd year project with them. Graduates are generally given more responsibility than undergrads so that is more appealing.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I made good friends with a few of the placement students and we would get together fairly often. In terms of colleagues, we went out for a Christmas doo and also went go-karting at one point, which was good.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in Leamington Spa which is fairly expensive. I was in a 2 person house and we paid £395 each a month including bills. There are student nights to go out in, where you can find cheap deals. There are also 2 Weatherspoons pubs that are generally cheap.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Fairly good as it's a student area.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As the area is close to Warwick uni, you can take advantage of all the societies there if you join as an associate member. I found i was generally too tired in the evenings to do much though...
