    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working on different projects within the team to assist any new or current lids queries, for a number of car lines. Primary project was to support the delivery of a new powered system, carrying out testing, and evaluating results.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • New CAD package learnt whilst on placement was Catia V6. New skills in MATLAB, Simulink, MiniTab. Developed systems engineering knowledge at an industry level.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Project objective defined right before starting placement so you have some idea of the work you will be doing. Picked up responsibilities as I got more confident within the business, by getting involved with different projects, asking for more work etc.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Plenty of support from the team, always happy to help out with any questions or queries. Networking helps with projects as many people outside your department will have answers to your queries. If they're not able to help, they will guide you in the right direction.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Hybrid working environment, many people choose what days to work in the office. Relaxed environment most of the time, but can have more stressful periods with deadlines approaching. Lovely work atmosphere, everyone is generally happy to help.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Was a very beneficial placement as I feel it has dramatically developed the skills I require when I graduate and return to work in industry. First few months were difficult to absorb all information, but no pressure from team. Generally, a lovely place to work and exciting projects to get involved in. Ample of support from Early Careers, as well as existing graduates, apprentices etc.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to JLR
  • Research the company and their values ahead of the assessment centre. Any sort of work experience that can be aligned to JLRs values will help in the behavioural assessments. Be yourself!
