    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Writing and maintaining requirement specifications. The workflow comes from quality issues that have been raised and various ways that a part can fail that have been assessed part by part for their specific functions. This is all stored in databases which need to be organised, clear and given to the relevant engineers for their relevant parts, and the team i am in also checks at different points in a project that the requirements are being met and that there is proof of this through the test cases we also write.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • As a requirement specification writer and maintainer, I have developed strong skills in organizing and managing databases to store critical information related to quality issues, failure assessment, and part functions. My ability to clearly communicate and document these requirements enables the relevant engineers to effectively carry out their tasks. Additionally, I am skilled in monitoring and verifying that the project requirements are being met through the test cases I write, ensuring quality control and project success. My attention to detail, organization, and communication are essential in this role.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • yes. I have been able to take on the same responsibilities and work as other full time permanent employees and have the opportunities to take on further responsibilities. With more people joining the company after myself, I was able to also share what I had learnt and help others as well. There are always tasks to be done but management is more keen of making sure people are learning as well so there have been chances to take internally hosted courses by people who have expertise in certain areas.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to JLR
  • Make sure to go out of your way to talk to and make as many contacts as you can. It nice to put yourself in the other persons shoes and think how youd respond if just one person reached out for help. Make sure to be an honest reflection of yourself - they like people who are keen to learn and have passion, but the main attribute of being able to work well in a team is a key trait
