    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a good and enjoyable placement. It was also a useful experience for determining what one would like to do in future. Often, coming to this decision can lead one to reflect back on the placement in either a positive or negative light; either enjoying the placement or realising that one would like to experience a different area of the business or even a different business. On the whole however, I enjoyed my time and I would like to continue to work for the company.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As my work and responsibilities built up, I slowly become a more integral part of my small team. My team were, however, always friendly, supportive and patient from the beginning and continued to be so up until the end of my placement.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manaer was a very supportive individual. We held weekly meetings to discuss the work from the past week and for the coming week. We also discussed my progress, what I performed well during my placement and areas I could improve upon.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As time has progressed throughout my placement, I have taken on quite a lot of work. I am usually busy during the day but it does not necessitate me taking work home or working late shifts. On the whole, I cannot complain for there is nothing I hate more then being bored at work and the pace of work here allowed me to improve on my planning and organisational skills.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite alot of responsibility durin my placement, organising and managing data and information that was used by the team to complete their necessary work. On the whole, I was an integral part of the team and that does make one and the work one does feel valued and in a position of responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • They were very helpful. Primarily, I picked up excel skills and also organisation, planning and analytical skills that are applicable elsewhere.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office (Lakeside, Staines) was a very friendly office. People were busy so there was always the buzz and noise of constant chatter and phone conversations. However, employees are always friendly and will always help you out if they have the time (especially if you say you are an intern).

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised and prepared. We were informed of our placements and accomodation in good time. My Buddy got in contact with me quickly and helped prepare me for the work, the office and the team. We were also given good instructions about arrival, inductions and other information.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have been given all the training I need to successfully complete my role, so yes, i do feel the company invests in you.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would be very happy to be offered a position with this firm in future. I have had the chance to see many different sides of the company and also had the oppurtunity to visit another office and see a the more customer facing sides of the business. On the whole, whilst I would not necessarily want to continues working in my present department in the long run, I would enjoy the prospect of continueing in this company as I enjoy the sector, the company and the culture of the workplace.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. There seems to be a very lively community amougst the placement students based in Royal Holloway and individuals are usually doing something, whether its sports or going out. The only problem is that the pub is abit of a walk (25 minutes). My advise if you can and you are based here is to bring a car. it allows alot more flexibility to go out and do things.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I can't really comment on this as I live close to the area and are used to the prices. It is egham and staines so you are close to London and as a result, it can seem pricey to some.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Pub is abit of a walk. I cant comment on the clubs but I hear the closest is in Windsor which is abit of a trek away. There are a number of pubs in Egham which are quite nice and a slightly grotty, but friendly pub which is 10 minutes walk from RHolloway.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, many. there are always invites going out to get involved in things.
