    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Doing a 2 week internship at Graduate Recruitment Bureau was my first experience in an office – and it was great. Aside from the constant supply of excellent coffee and the tuck shop in the staff kitchen, the different tasks I was allocated allowed me to gain a great understanding of what marketing consists of. From basic admin jobs of replying to bulk emails to writing articles for the company blog, GRB ensured I acquired a great breadth of knowledge in my two weeks here.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Occasionally, I would be left without a job to do, but from what I have picked up during my time here is that marketing is made of many, small tasks which promote the company. So, it is understandable that I was given the smaller, more menial jobs, as the intern, such as updating the contact details of all the clients. These jobs did not feel very exciting but at least enabled me to be directly involved in the workings of the company (instead of doing useless paperwork, for example).

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I was sat on a desk surrounded by the marketing assistant, marketing manager and marketing director. Help was on hand the instant I asked for it!

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The marketing team may be small, but their efforts are clearly very effective, and so to gain an insight into how they do this was invaluable knowledge. For example, they showed me the importance of wording within an article – the significance of positivity and humour. They taught me the basics of how to use a database system, which stores all of their contacts, and I was even able to shadow the recruitment aspect of the company, so I could understand the exact services GRB offered. I was also given time and a little guidance to create my own LinkedIn Account, after seeing the importance of networking first-hand throughout my time at the company.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I did feel like there were a couple of slightly backward aspects to my 2 weeks here, since I only shadowed people from different aspects of the company towards the end of my time here. I might have benefited from this knowledge earlier on during my experience here, as I would have had a greater understanding of what GRB were promoting.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere in the office is excellent; the smart casual dress code and friendships between staff created an environment where even as a newbie I felt very much at ease. They also bought me a birthday cake, which may or may not have been bribery. Either way, it definitely worked and contributed to the great experience I have had at GRB.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was only there for 2 weeks, and received a basic explanation prior to every new task I was given. I was also given a lengthy introduction to the company itself at the beginning of my two weeks here, and so understood the history of the company and the market of recruitment itself. As a member of the marketing team, no complex training is really necessary to teach me new skills, and instead I picked up most knowledge about the industry along the way.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • To a significant extent; working in the main office, in one of the busiest rooms meant that I felt like I was in the centre of all activity. My 9 to 5 hours meant that I was treated like a full-time employee during my time with GRB.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Quite well - there is a nice company atmosphere, with regular social events, and a friendly area to socialize in for lunch.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Quite valuable - even if I don't go into marketing, I feel I have gained great insight into the field.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid for this experience, which again contributed to my experience as a full-time employee.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • I was able to talk to other employees within the Brighton department, and have added some on LinkedIn. However, during working hours, socialising is quite difficult as everyone is focused upon their own tasks and candidates. There are no group projects for example, but this is the nature of recruitment.

    3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • I only attended 2 social events, both of which were a trip to the local pub. These were friendly, but low-key events.

    3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There was a vague mention about go-karting, but other than that it was really mentioned.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, for marketing and office experience.
