About You
The Summer Vacation Scheme does give a really good insight into what it is like to work at Deloitte. You're made to feel part of the team, and the people are really helpful. However, there were times when no work was available that I was able to do- which meant I sometimes got bored.
Everyone I met was very friendly, and I was made to feel very welcome.
Plenty- there was always someone available to ask if I had questions
In my degree studies- not a lot. But it did help to learn a lot about what a job in audit actually entails and what it would be like to work for Deloitte.
The Company
The induction event was held in Birmingham and involved everyone taking part in the SVS from all regional offices. It was well structured and useful for helping everyone to settle in, but may have been better if it was held somewhere close to a train station. The location was quite difficult to get to on public transport, especially when they instructions given weren't correct for sunday buses. The SVS itself was well structured (especially at the start), however I sometimes I had to try and chase people up to find out where I was supposed to be/ who I was with. As previously mentioned though, there was always someone available to ask so it wasn't too much of a problem.
The general atmosphere was good- the staff were all friendly and helpful
Everyone is given a laptop on their first day and given a general IT induction. During the internship, the staff invested a lot of time teaching me how to complete tasks.
The SVS gave me a really good idea of what it would be like to have a full time role within the company. Actually doing it for 3 weeks gives you a far better idea than reading about the role online.
A lot- you get a real insight into what the company is about, what it values and the kind of people that work there
You learn about what the job actually involves, and what it would be like to do it every day as a job. I also learnt about how my career would be likely to progress if I were to do the graduate scheme.
Everything Else
The pay is decent
In audit, you're hardly in the office. During my time with Deloitte, I spent a week working away and was taken out for meals, and got the chance to get to know other employees. Although I didn't see much of the other interns, as they were all based elsewhere.
There was plenty of opportunity to network with other employees.
They seem to have plenty of Deloitte social events throughout the year, including office party's/balls.
Yes, I would recommend it to a friend. It looks great on your CV and does give you a really good insight into the kind of opportunities which are out there. However- I would warn them that it is likely to involve some commuting/staying away from home and that some of the work is slightly dry.
