    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The day would start with a morning catch up and you would say what u did the day before and what your planning to do today. You would then work on testing low risk areas of the audit and completing working papers. you would also have calls with the client on teams or in person to run through requests you have for them or the stage and process of the audit. You would also sample areas such as revenue or payable and send them to the client for supporting evidence.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes, i have learnt skills such as communication as we would often communicate with the client on teams calls and meeting in person. Also, i have developed my professionalism as the corporate working environment is very different from part time jobs and so I was able to learn to act and speak professionally. I also improved my attention to detail as audit is a lot of focusing and noticing if anything seems wrong and being able to pick up on any issues.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, we would be given balances to test alone and would be given data from the client. We would then sample this and send the samples we have selected to the client. We have then documented up the samples and wait for supporting evidence from the client. We then document up to make sure the sample and supporting evidence correlate and everything looks okay. If everything works out okay we sign off the working paper and a manager will review this.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • We received a lot of support. we were all allocated a buddy when we started who was someone from the year above us. We were also given a people leader who would have catch ups with us every few months to make sure we are on track to achieve our goals. we also had performance reviews every April where we get reviewed by our superiors and they give us advice. At the end of each engagement we can also ask for feedback.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture was great in the Financial services department as the department is small. we have socials very often such as sports day, darts, cricket and drinks. we have audit meals at the end of every engagement when we sign the audit which is for the whole audit team. We also will have leaving drinks for friends who leave the office. to keep up team moral we have team lunches very often and everyone gets along very well.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed it and am planning to go back. i made great friends and although it is very demanding and i have to work later very often i will also be CA qualified so i see it as a necessary sacrifice. The environment is great and i love learning new things and i think i will constantly learn new things at deloitte. I would only recommend it if you are okay with working over time a lot and okay with not getting paid for it.
